I took delivery of a new RAM 1500 Big Horn yesterday. I traded a '17 Ram Hemi 5.7. No complaints with the Hemi. . .it served me well, but I've wanted one of these I6 turbo engines since I heard about them a few years ago.
Observations:
During the test drive at the dealer, I noticed that the shifting was really rough and it made it seem almost like the engine was missing while at low speeds. I figured that it just needed time to self-calibrate as it had only about 15 miles on it.
Today I took it on about a 65 mile loop around my home area, which included a mix of interstate, hills and curves, and city stop and go, with a few spirited take-offs in the mix. By the time I got home everything had smoothed out nicely--it's as smooth as my old Hemi and that's saying something!
The tire pressures apparently hadn't been checked at the dealer; some were way over the spec, and some were under. I corrected that and it handles perfectly now.
This truck is quieter than the '17 Ram. The cab seems to have substantially less wind / road noise.
I noticed that the oil pressure likes to hang around 27 PSI when going down the road and around 24 when stopped--seems low to me, but according to other owners, that's in the ballpark. Highest pressure I saw today was 33 PSI when I stomped on it from a stop. Is that what you guys are seeing?
So far it seems like a keeper!
