I took delivery of a new RAM 1500 Big Horn yesterday. I traded a '17 Ram Hemi 5.7. No complaints with the Hemi. . .it served me well, but I've wanted one of these I6 turbo engines since I heard about them a few years ago.

Observations:

During the test drive at the dealer, I noticed that the shifting was really rough and it made it seem almost like the engine was missing while at low speeds. I figured that it just needed time to self-calibrate as it had only about 15 miles on it.

Today I took it on about a 65 mile loop around my home area, which included a mix of interstate, hills and curves, and city stop and go, with a few spirited take-offs in the mix. By the time I got home everything had smoothed out nicely--it's as smooth as my old Hemi and that's saying something!

The tire pressures apparently hadn't been checked at the dealer; some were way over the spec, and some were under. I corrected that and it handles perfectly now.

This truck is quieter than the '17 Ram. The cab seems to have substantially less wind / road noise.

I noticed that the oil pressure likes to hang around 27 PSI when going down the road and around 24 when stopped--seems low to me, but according to other owners, that's in the ballpark. Highest pressure I saw today was 33 PSI when I stomped on it from a stop. Is that what you guys are seeing?

So far it seems like a keeper!

Glad you’re liking it, I’ve been thinking of trading in my 2012 5.7 for a 26, but also hate the thought of giving up a truck that’s been so great. But I understand why you did, I’ve test driven those 3.0s and they are fun as hell. I’ve been hearing a ton of comparisons to the BMW B58 and Toyota 2JZ. Pretty esteemed company to be in

HOPE both of U guys above have many many miles of enjoyable experience and no major issues.

@rowemesp

Of course be quieter as no Hemi (no hemi grunt, 6 banger). Hopefully they R building the body and chassis tighter to dampen road noise.
Keep an eye on thermostat area due to plastic parts in there. My son has had his 25 Biggyhorn for a while and he is happy with it, BUT he does also run midgrade fuel, believes it runs better. I have no clue, just a BOIRD in TX with my Hemi. (and only 89 or above)

Mine has a Feb '25 build date so I'm concerned about electrical gremlins but nothing so far. I did buy the extended warranty (which is now standard on the 26's... just my luck).
I came from a V8 and yes I sometimes miss the rumble but then again the quiet ride is sure nice. I didn't even know the truck had auto off for the first week until I noticed the tach was flatlined.

I took my dad out for a test ride yesterday in an empty warehouse parking lot. The acceleration is phenomenal. This thing is a speeding ticket waiting to happen.

My truck's build date is 6/2025 -- I believe the thermostat problems were in the very early production JEEPS. I've not heard about the thermostats being problematic in the Ram, so far. Correct me if I'm wrong.

As of today, my truck continues to run great, no issues. I took it on a trip from central PA to KY and back a couple weeks ago and it went well. I averaged about 22 mpg both ways through some very hilly interstate driving.

There have been reports reference thermostat issues on the hurricanes in the Rams. Now whether or not that’s prolific or not I don’t know. Just keep an eye on it and make sure you are good to go. Hope u get many joyful miles.

I've used both 87 and 93 octane. I'm currently running 93, but I haven't noticed a difference with my SO-- I'm retired and use the truck like a car for the most part. I might haul stuff from Home Depot occasionally but this truck has an easy life. I think people who are hauling campers or using their trucks for work would have a better opinion.
