Hey guys, hope this is the right place to ask this but I'm looking for a place to mount a small winch I got with black friday to my truck. I am currently toying with the idea of removing my tow hooks from the front, and mounting this behind the bumper and making a flip up licence plate effectively keeping the look of my truck unchanged. Does anyone have any information about the space that is available behind the bumper for me to work with? The winch is going to require roughly 4.5 inches which I doubt will work for my current plan

First a 3k winch is only going to break when you are stuck trying to pull a 5k truck. Second there is a member who build a winch behind the bumper, search hidden winch.

A 3,000 lb winch is going to be wildly unhelpful for just about anything you’re going to need to use it for unless it’s to move small trees. Why get such a small one?

A 3k winch is only good for an ATV or side by side, it'll be too small for a truck.

As already stated, a 3k winch way too small for self recovery use on a ram.

On a more positive note, there is plenty of room behind the bumper to mount a winch.
I have a 12k winch behind the bumper of my 2012 1500.

Front plates are not required where I am, but I made some clips out of PVC to attach a plate to hide the rollers and hook.

Bud, any winch rating is for that first and outer spool. The more line out, the less you have. There are a bunch of winch plates out there. If you are handy, one could be made quite easily and bolted to the frame. Front plate winch hiders come in a bunch of ways. Some are hinged up, or down on the fair leed, some or clipped, even seen spring loaded. If money is an issue, i had very good luck with a badlands winch from harbor freight. It was a 12k.
