I have been looking at K&N Cold Air Intake systems for my hemi. Just wondering if anyone has any feed back or reviews on them?

I would suggest looking into a S&B Cold Air Intake... or a Vararam... I chose S&B for fitment and finish quality although Vararam is said to have slightly better performance due to the style... but that comes with some draw backs too if you live in a place with a lot of snow / sleet etc...

I'd look at S&B or Vararam as well. I've never been impressed with the fit or performance of the K&N kits.

My personal opinion, K&N systems and filters are junk... S&B is a very well made and quality product, cant go wrong with it... Ive installed them on many a Diesel trucks that see a harsh life in the Rice Fields farming. The Vararam is a pretty nice set up too... I'm not to sold on the fit and finish but still happy with mine.

I would think the Vararam would work the exact same since the hood scoops are non functional anyways... it should seal to the hood the same...

I wish they were... I'm still thinking of making them functional. My someday to be brother inlaw is a manager at a body shop... we were talking the other day on things to do on the truck to make it as it should have come... its always good to have a body guy in the family... I'll prob buy a blank unpainted and figure it out...

I think most will tell you to stay away from the K&N but I like mine. Dropped right in with no problems and added a little rumble to the exhaust tone. I don't clean or keep the filter I just replace it annually. When I changed my filter a few months ago I looked inside the old filter, inside the tube and inside the throttle body an fit was spotless so the filtering seems good to me. The hot air comments take with a grain of salt; my T 1000 you can monitor intake temps and it's the same as the outside air. And in traffic it only goes up a few degrees. I also like how durable the components are, it bolts in nice and strong, not flimsy like a few other CAI out there. Over all I like it.

Do a little digging before buying a blank. I know I've seen an aftermarket replacement hood with a fuctional scoop I just don't recall who it was... But it looked damn good :)

I've seen one, wasn't really inpressed. I'm had to please.. Plus I kinda have a idea involved that involves something similar to a Vararam that is integrated with the hood. I also may just used the vents as heat extractors to help with engine bay temps.... I haven't fully looking into it and engineered it yet.. still making plans for the truck. once I have the plans and design I'll start.

Till then its just bolt on mods

I Agree S&B is a lot better imo than K&N, if you want the bigger gains Vararam is where its at.

whats going to be the gains difference between the vararam and the S&B?

from the site, ive read the vararam gains up to 35-40 lbs with the "air grabber"

whats the difference between the 3 models of vararam (summit racing site)

I have a S&B and highly recommend it. The butt dyno says I got gains and it sounds pretty cool under power. I have seen the Vararam up close and it is quality as well. These are really the only two that I would consider.

Hxcburrito - the Vararam will have better gains because it places the filter pretty much right on the throttle body. There is really no intake tube rather just a straight 6" connector lol. The three models I think are just different colored filter lids.

Horse power clams with all the CAI is marketing. Everything is controlled by the computer, even tho your getting more air in your not getting any more fuel to take advantage of it. With my K&N I notices better throttle response and pulled a little harder than the stock system. But no HP gain.

for what its worth, my butt dyno couldnt really tell a difference between the two. if anything i think i might have noticed a bit more in the lower end range with the s&b.
