I have the AFE on my 6.4 2500. It's much quieter and easier to install than the S&B that I had. Just my preference for sound. Similar performance gain. It is also CARB Certified as at the time the S&B was pending Certification.

Sorry if I missed it but what kind of filter does this come with? Is it an oil or dry filter?

I actually like the tube going from filter to throttle body better on the AFE. I like the bend it has better than the S&B.

I dont think anyone would be able to tell the power difference between AFE, S&B, and Vararam by the seat of the pants but all 3 options will out perform the stock air box.

What do mean by “just my preference for sound”?

Does one system provide a louder sucking sound?

There was a louder sound from the S&B Filter. More growl. The AFE does not have that.

I have the momentum on my 2017 outdoorsman and its definitely a quieter setup than any other cai that I've heard even with the 87mm tb installed. Pairs really well with the pulsar and ****** blackheart single side exit exhaust.

Not sure if the gain would have been much had I installed the CAI before upgrading the exhaust & Pulsar but it was very noticeable doing so afterwards. Super pleased w/ the quality, appearance & performance! Thanks to Nick @ GotExhaust for the discount & same day shipping! Some may wonder why I didn't go the VaraRam route - I wanted to keep an airbox in place to obstruct the Pulsar from view for when I take the truck in to the dealership for oil changes. Not overly keen on having to remove the Pulsar, unless absolutely necessary. That was also the reason I passed on the S&B option... if/when I do need to remove the Pulsar for a service visit, I didn't want to deal w/ a PITA CAI removal process to get access to the PCM. Long story short, the Momentum GT Pro 5R was the best option for my needs & I could not be happier w/ the results. Pulls harder throughout the entire RPM range, SOTP gauge so take that for what it's worth but I am confident this was a worthy upgrade.

Have mine going on about 8 months now. So far all good. Have you tried running it with the rubber plug on, curious if you notice any difference.

It's just a hot air intake without the plug in. Would be nice if afe made a dynamic intake scoop like they do for the hd model

I have done testing on open intake elements vs closed box. Other than sitting at idle and initial take off the intake will not pull in hot engine bay air. there is enough positive air pressure coming in from the fender scoop where the stock air box pulled air from and from the grille that it is pulling in the cooler atmosphere air not hot air off the engine. This is with normal cruising not WOT. It was on my normal commute to and from work over the course of a few days Plus the increased CFM will negate the increased intake temp

Good to know. Seems illogical though seeing how hot the engine bay can get and I haven't taken the time to monitor intake temps so I'm sure your info is good. I appreciate the knowledge.

I agree with your thoughts of it being illogical. That is why i wanted to see for my self. you will see higher temps at idle and initial take off. once your moving temps just about match outside ambient temp. I have talked with tuners and they say the increased CFM is more important than increased intake temp within reason of course. I do agree with not having a completely open element. I think one that seals to the hood and blocks the air behind it is beneficial and I think the best option is one like the AFE shown in this thread. Pulls air from fender(stock location to get air from) and from a hole in the front of the enclosed air box. For WOT pulls i think this helps pick up a few hp. I know when i tested it WOT intake temps were identical to outside ambient temp with an open air box.

I have the same one and I am having issues with the filter falling out of the box. No matter how much I tighten the clamp down it keeps slipping out of the air box. Are you having this issue too? Anyone else with this intake have this issue?

I suspect you tightened the clamp too much initially which forced the filter to back out. You can see the housing is squeezed in due to the clamp being too tight. Attempting to tighten it further would only serve to worsen the problem. I tightend the clamp only to the point that it was firmly in place & couldn't shift on the housing. Pretty confident that's your issue.
