Aftermarket ken wood radio and steering controls

Just a question. Would a aftermarket ken wood new radio/satellite/navigation disable the stock steering controls? Or can they wire them so they still work? Anyone have any experience in this ?

There are adapters (that cost extra) to wire it in.
