I see the air box is connected to the fender. My question is: were is the opening where the air comes in and goes to the air box?

It takes air in from the passenger fender well.

I got that part. I was wondering where the opening is to the fender well that lets the air in.

The only thing I see are a few small holes in the sheet metal where the hood closes.

I’m concerned that you think the fender is some air tight space...

Front and back liner openings, fan shroud skims it around the heads/fender but you’re going to catch some radiant off the manifolds. Far from a true cold intake, but well designed and robust from the production floor throughout the globe climate variation.

Wow. Thanks. I'll look for it next time I'm under there.

I see you have a 1500. Mine's a 2500. I don't see that piece. Nor do I see anything that feeds the fender for air.

Diesel or gas? The diesels have the Ram air setup that gets air from behind the grille as well as the inner fender.

2015 up have a cutout in a piece behind the grille on the lower left side to feed that air.

Im fairly sure that’s only on the diesels with ram air. The 1500s still have it at the fender like this one below. It’s a 2018 1500 5.7. It takes air in from pretty much behind the passenger side headlight. There are some deflectors as well so it’s not going to get any heat from the manifolds.

My truck is a 2017 1500 Hemi and has that opening. I believe the opening was due to the 1500's using the shutters....thoughts?

The Ram Air term get used pretty loosely on most forums.Ram Air doesn't even come into play until you reach much higher speeds than you'll ever see on the street.Doesn't matter where the intake is it's just an intake.

I've looked and the only opening for fresh air I can find is on the fender near the coolant bottle. I'd guess 3 - 4" square. I'll keep looking.

Heres a video that shows the 1500 grille with the air passage cutout. I'm not saying the air goes from here directly to the airbox, I'm just saying I think this helps feed air to the fender then thru the tube to the airbox on trucks with the shutters aka gas engines

here’s my gas 1500 grille opening cutout

I can only speak to my 2011 but that is also a 4 inch square portal in the inner fender panel feeding the intake to the filter box. I don't know where the air comes from up to that point but I do know that it is an excellent place to install some quarter inch square galvanized screening to keep the squirrels and chipmunks and their acorns out of your intake system. Works for me and only took about ten minutes to fab and install, simply wrapping it over the mouth of the male air tube end. Hope someone else benefits from this as I have. I used to have an abundance of trash in there. Since then virtually nothing.

Nice idea. How did you clean out the area from the opening to the intake tube?
