I've got a 2015 and the 8.4A system. It seems like everything (heat, AC, fan, etc) can be controlled outside of the display through a dial or button. The only thing that I can't figure out is how to change the air to change between upper vents only, lower vents only, or a mix. Is there any way to switch between those settings without using the 8.4A touchscreen?

I had the 911 button error and had a useless 8.4A until the dealership replaced the entire radio. That's when I realized that I couldn't change the airflow. It got me thinking towards the future when/if the display dies and I don't care to replace it. The air flow seems to be the only climate feature that I can't control elsewhere.

Is there a way to do it or only through the screen?

That's a stupid design then. Everything else with climate control has an alternate means of doing it outside of the screen. I really hope that there is some way of doing it.

Nope you are stuck with the screen for climate control. You could reverse engineer some manual controls from a 5.0 bezel.
While removing the 8.4 control module and bezel when it is time to upgrade your radio. As cheap as these 8.4s are I'll probably just replace mine with another junkyard radio if/when it fails.
Or I'll just yank out the wire harness I made and slap back on the 5.0 bezel that is in the garage.
