2010 1500 Laramie - Dual Zone Climate

I have weak airflow across all functions, I have a 15 minute drive to work and even with remote start in the MN winter, my windows are still fogged and ICED on the INSIDE.

I replace the blower motor already. The 'accordion' for the recirc does not move when the button is pushed, also the blend door actuator does not move when lowering the temp down to the 60's. I did notice the accordion 'tries' to move when the recirc button is activated.

I've tried the recalibration method by holding the recirc and AC button at the same time and the blend actuator goes through its cycle.

My recirc actuator is on TOP of my hvac box under the dash, can't get to it without dash removal.

Why is my airflow so weak, it's like something is blocking it. Yes, I've already inspected the evap and core, they are clean enough that I don't think that's the problem.

Man, you wouldn't believe how many 2009-2014 Ram HVAC housings I have cleaned over the years. The evaporators get so dirty that the airflow becomes restricted. I have replaced so many of them it's not even funny anymore.

The first thing that I would do is connect my scan tool and go look at the HVAC control and verify that the controller is attempting to sweep the actuators. Then I would physically verify that the actuators are moving and that the blend doors, mode door and defrost door are moving freely as well as the recirc. actuator.

With that said you may want to recheck the evaporator by removing the blower motor and sticking a small mirror and a flashlight in the housing to look up at the evaporator.

The HVAC system will not go into recirc mode if any of the defrost modes are selected. This is pretty much a standard for all males and models.

I don't have it in defrost when I'm doing this. I'm not worried about recirc airflow, just that the airflow is weeeeak.

Easier said than done, I don't have a scantool, and I'm sure one that does that isn't cheap. How do I figure out if actuators are working without taking apart the dash. ALL modes work, so I would imagine the doors are all fine.

I'll give the evap another check.

AlfaOBD is a good option and not very expensive.

I'm not sure about the cx since I have the mx version but you'll need to pay for for alfaobd. It works with android phones and computers. As far as what computers I'm not sure. I'm not tech savvy but you should be able to find that information pretty easily.

The OBDLink CX is an OBD2 interface, nothing more.

If using windoze 10 or 11, I would think they would find driver files automatically, but I don't recall if I had to manually add the drivers for the OBLink SX that I use.

You will require an app to read codes, which will cost money.
Many of us use AlfaOBD because of the low cost and the number of tweaks it allows.
The real-time monitoring features are just an added bonus.

Do you already have AlfaOBD and are having a challenge getting it to connect to your truck?

The OBD Link is like a mp3 player. It can play lots of songs, so ya still gottta buy the song you want to play.

in this case, you need Alfa OBD.

Later, you can buy other code readers and apps to use with it too.

I have not purchased AlfaOBD yet. I only have OBDLink CX at the moment.

You should be able to see the blend doors move, which tells you the actuators are working and so are the doors.

My ram was not equipped with a cabin air filter installed, just the slot, so that is not an issue. There is no debris in the blower housing, no broken door pieces, etc.

It sounds like most of the air is getting hung up right near the blower. I noticed there are some tabs and a couple of screws, is the 'box' able to be taken apart at the blower housing?

I will add that the recirculation does not seem to be operating. When the button is pushed it stays lit but theres not change in airflow or no audible sound of change.

Try using the search utility in the upper-right corner, and you will find many threads on this topic.

At 2:18 in the following video, the blower motor is dropped. You could inspect, clean and test the motor. Also, stick your hand, and/or a dental-type mirror into the opening to look for a mouse house or other miscellaneous debris.

Yes, the air box comes apart. If you had bothered to look at the videos you would have clearly seen that. You can't fix stuff sitting at the computer. Get up, go to garage, take stuff apart and figure out what isn't working. It is a lot of work taking the dash out but lots of fixes are labour intensive. Only option if you don't want to spend the time or aren't good with a wrench is to take it to a mechanic. There is not going to be a low effort cure.
