Hey there everyone in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7 I have air coming out by the windshield an down by the feet but no matter how high I turn it up or what setting I set it on air will not come out towards my face which would be nice sometimes!! Me and my dad when we bought it figured it would just be a vacuum hose but later we took it to the dealer and they said it was the air box but then I asked the guys at auto zone and they have never heard of an air box. They said it could be the blend door actuator. But there some weird stuff going on with my AC I will list the symptoms below! Thanks everyone! I would really appreciate anyone and everyone's input!!
Problems
1. No air out of the front of dash
2. Sideview mirror defroster light blinks constantly and can't press a button to turn it off
3. Sometimes when I start the car the passenger side in the dash makes like a really weird kinda like a real small faint engine noise(it's not a good engine) haha what could this be?? Or is this multiple things??

the "air box" the dealer is talking about is your hvac box(has youre heater core, evaporator, blend doors, mode door and recirc door). Youre problem is your mode doors, the little tab that is used to move the doors is likely broken meaning you need new doors. it could possibly be the actuator but most of the time its the doors.
as to the defroster light thats another issue, not sure whats wrong with that. do you mirror defrosters work?

Nope they don't. The light keeps flashing and I don't know if their on or off but I can't tell either way. Okay so I need to replace the whole HVAC box

Could be just the switch but I really dont know on those.

You dont have to replace the whole box, just the mode doors. The dealer might replace the whole box because its easier on their part and more expensive for you. I would test the actuator first just to be sure. turn the key on but dont start and turn the radio and blower motor off. listen carefully and mess with the mode selector knob and you should be able to hear the actuator moving, it only moves for like a second so listen carefully. you might need to get down close to the floor vents to hear it. if you hear them then your doors are the problem

Okay, and for this I will need to remove the whole dash correct? I'm not looking forward to that.

Is that what I would need to fix it?

If he has the mode doors. A lot of people that do this fix use these "heater treater" doors because theyre metal and wont break like the plastic ones

Yes, the problem is when the little servo motors do their self centering routine to find "home" they slightly go past the limit on each side. So they constantly twist at the ends of the doors eventualy breaking them. The metal doors fix this. Its an involved process but the instructions are prety straight forward and if you got time and patience.....WAYYYY cheaper than the dealer. I think the web site is heatertrater.com if you wanna look. I got the kit with 2 of the 3 doors in the heater box. I opted not to get the one that they say really never breaks. The kit i have with control All the floor to defrost setting and all in between. i could still control temp in mine.

Yeah the temp is fine to but I think I might as well replace that too while I'm in there since they have a problem too. How much would yours cost me?
