My dad is ordering a 2016 Laramie Longhorn. Should he get it with air ride? Does it make the ride more comfortable? He won't be pulling an trailers and he's not going off road.

Well, comfort is subjective. He should test drive one with it and another without and determine that way.

I love mine, but I tow, haul, highway (aero mode is kinda neat, and it did show improvement in a wind tunnel). I don't do any hard core offroading, but I use offroad settings a fair bit when I'm up north on unpaved roads. The load leveling is nice, and works as far as I can tell. And entry/exit was actually very helpful when I had a severely sprained ankle last fall. Does it justify the extra cost new? Idk, I bought mine used....

What he Said ^
From personal experience, the ride is much smoother, less bumpy, the entry/exit height has come handy with family, and the off road heights give me confidence when going over unpaved roads. AERO mode helps some what with MPG. Is it needed? To me it is a nice to have but wouldn't change my decision in buying this truck.

Honestly, Rambox is my favorite feature that's not inside the cab. It's SO nice having trunks that can be utilized for everyday things that I dont want flying around in the cab or bed. Hunting/sporting rifles and shotguns fit in there (I have the 5'7" bed) no problem. And you can fill them up with ice and beer for tailgating. Lol Of course, if you have an ATV, it might not fit...

I ordered the air suspension with my truck even tho' I don't go off roading at all. Some of the benefits:
"Entry level" lets my wife and even large people get in & out much easier.
When parking in close quarters I raise the truck to OffRoad II and then most careless car doors will hit the side steps and not the paint!
Raising the truck also allows easy access under the truck for oil changing, etc.
It is fun to be able to go up 3 inches when pulling up next to a lifted truck or down when pulling up to a low truck.

So far, after 2 years, no regrets.

Thanks all. My dad followed the salesman's advise and didn't get it. I figured if nothing else, it would make getting in and out easier for his 74 year old bones.

Guess its to late now but everytime a thread like this comes up I have never heard someone who has gotten air ride said that they wish they didnt.

i like entry/exit to get in and im only 30. ha When I lift it it wont really matter at that point though.

Why did the salesman advise against it?

I'm not sure if it's equitable, but I know they had issues with it on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland when it came out.

For me, I drove a JGC with the air suspension and it wasn't for me. Now, I come from driving German sports cars so I actually prefer a rougher ride. I like the feeling of control and road feel - that I didn't get with the air ride. But for the overwhelming majority of people, it'd be preferred.

The only folks with second thoughts seem to be those that had to repair compressors or air springs out of warranty. Can be $thousands.

A maxicare lifetime cures that anxiety, however.

There are those that want permanent lifts and got into air suspension by mistake.

I didn't order my truck it just happened to be on the truck that I wanted. Blackout edition is what I was looking for. Very happy with it. Entry/exit helps when loading my bull mastiff. The load leveling is impressive. Here's a couple examples. Actually got it to squat temporarily as the truck was off when I loaded it and then it sensed the weight and leveled right out. 25 concrete post supports at 50-60 pounds each plus decking materials including some composite wood.

My airbags are set to 20lbs

My load is about, 7500# 6 yards of mulch, and 2700# trailer didn't squat

Mine isn't factory but when air is let out to 6.5 psi, this truck ride so much better! I could only imaging what the air is like...

Love my air ride. The load leveling is awesome, and it lets my elderly relatives enter and exit the truck much more easily. I'll have to remember the idea of raising the truck when I am forced to park next to someone.

I'm sorry but this is just funny as all get out!:happy107: :roflsquared: I can just see ya at a light fwip UP please, phuuut down thank you...
This should be put on an TV ad or sales sheet as it's made me wish I'd bought it.
Now all they need to do is hook the air to the side step or nerf bars to be used as payback for door dingers. They get out a ding your rig with their door and your nerf bar pops out and shuts their door rapidly for them! :naughty:

I love the idea of the air ride, but I don't think I would get it on a truck that I planned to keep more than a few years. It seems to be a pretty pricey repair when something goes bad.

^ THIS.

if it was a lease then yes. I just wouldn't buy it unless I plan on towing a lot. a few times a year, no. a few times a month, yes.

EVERYTHING is pricey to repair when the warranty is gone. On my last truck, the ABS light came on at the 11 year mark. Cost to replace 2 hydraulic gizmos under the truck was $2500 parts and labor.
