Greetings all! Looking to trade in my truck and pick up a newer 2021 or new 22 RAM Rebel. I am interested in the air suspension system as I will occasionally tow a trailer. I do, however, live in a colder climate in the upper Midwest where winters can hit -15 to -20 F. I have heard horror stories about the 4th generations air system reliability in cold temperatures. Would love any first hand experience on 5th gens reliability in cold climates. I know it works in warmer climates, so most interested in the cold.

Cheers!

I have it on 2021 Rebel. Had no issues.
Wasn't really that cold this winter.

Live in Alberta and my 2019 1500 Limited had no issues. It was a nice feature from my perspective. Upgraded to a 2500 recently.

I can't really comment on the effect from cold climate because here in Southern Oregon it normally doesn't drop into the 20's. I've had my 2021 for 14ish months with no air suspension issues although after hearing a few complaints I opted for an 8 year extended warranty. I love the air suspension mainly because I often tow a camping trailer. When towing over the road I use a WDH but even with the hitch the air suspension will automatically fine tune the height. When I move my trailer around town, I don't bother with the weight distributing bars and the air levels everything out. Excellent system so far.

It's fairly reliable if you keep it maintained. Needs periodic leak check and nitrogen refills. Some dealers seem to struggle with it, and most other repair shops won't work on it.

I haven't really read about any issues with the 5th gen systems. My 2021 Limited has been trouble free for a year now, and the wife's Limited hasn't had any issues in the 2 years she's had it. We don't have sustained temperatures below zero, but it can get that cold overnight during a cold snap. Normal winter daytime temps are around 30 degrees, and normal night time temps are closer to 20 degrees. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're planning to keep the truck for a very long time. Nearly all air suspension systems will eventually fail.

My boss has a 2019 Rebel and he has no issues with it. Has issues with pretty much everything else except the air suspension! :D

Thanks all. Picked up a 2020 Rebel without the air suspension just to be sure.
