Hey everyone.
I have the AlfaOBD app and was wondering which settings would I have to change to add HID's and will I still need capacitors to avoid flickering or bulb out issues? Lastly, do I need a relay kit or will the factory wiring handle a 35w kit?
Thanks for the help!

All you need are:

Bulbs
Ballast/ignitor

In whichever brand you prefer.

This is the setting in Alfa to run the HID's

I'm running 55w projector HIDs in both my highs and lows off the factory harness with no problems

Keep an eye on the areas of your projector shroud. If it's a true 55w system you're going to generate more heat which could in turn melt some of the internal headlight housing.

Put it this way it's not recommended to run a 55w system off the stock harness simply because some folks might burn up their kit instantly and others might not where as a 35w kit could pass for everyone.

Thanks for the heads up but I have to disagree.

1- This is a true 55w system. 4 ea, Projectors, Tuning H1 V3 with Mini H1 Shrouds with Ultra H1, 4500K Bulbs and 4 ea, 55w Ballasts.

2- Having HIDs in both high and low sockets is twice what is normally installed in quad headlight assemblies. We have this system in Fords & Rams. All are running off the factory wire harness. Never a "heat" or any other problem.

So im completely puzzled. After hearing from you guys and doing some research, I felt like the Opt7 conversion kits were good for the price. So i ordered low, high, and fog kits and got them in today. They left out 2 adapters for the high beams but i havent had a chance to contact them because it was after hours when i started installing everything. I changed the hid configuration first. The I connected the low beam to test everything prior to drilling the dust cover. Everything worked correcty so i disconnected everything, drilled the cover, and reconnected everything. Now i cant get the damn low beams to work right i kept getting an error code and tried clearing it with alfaobd but it keeps ckming back. I think it says low beam circuit open. Ive tried different bulbs, different ballasts, an anti flicker harness, and relay harness and cant get it to work right. When i reinstall the halogens, they work perfect. What am i doing wrong?

In the setting on the app it says it's on. But still getting the error. Strange
What are the fault codes when you scan the BCM for errors? If you clear them, do they come back? And if so, do they only come back when your low beams are on, or does it throw the fault as soon as you start the truck (without the lights on)?

I cleared the code. As of now it’s working. I guess I had to give it some more time. I also had factory quads and the quad headlight setting was set to off. I turned it on and now its working with only the bulbs and ballasts.

How long did it take for the BCM to accept the changes? I did the settings as described and I still get a Low beam out message.

That's the weird part. Any changes I've made to the truck will either accept it instantly or not at all. I've never waited like some suggest.

My thought process is this. The PCM and TCM can take the tunes fairly quickly. Why is the BCM any different?

Yeah. I figured it out that although I had quads it was not selected in the BCM. Did that and now I have no issues and was able to directly wire the ballasts to the stock wiring. Got rid of all the resistors and relays.

So much freedom from those rat nest wiring harnesses that most of the time are the problem anyway.

Enjoy!

Oh yeah. Wish I would have found Alfaobd prior to putting all the junk in.

I just tried HIDs in my fogs. They would flash 3 times then quit. 35 watt ballasts no relay. High Intensity headlights YES, Fog lights YES.
Any thoughts?

Try turning led fogs on

Sorry I meant to say that too. I had led fogs on. Maybe I should have waited? With Alfaobd I don't have to have relays right?

I know with low's you don't. Fogs you shouldn't have to either. Maybe turn led fogs off and see
