The preamps are on the back of the unit, and if memory serves me right, they are on a plug, not a row like you see on some head units. Again, if memory serves me right, its been a bit since I looked at the back of it.

On the sat antenna - I'll be honest, I am not sure. I didn't hook up anything for the sat radio, not sure how the wiring is for that.

clock works great - no issues at all with it.

I was looking at a very similar Kenwood. I just don't care for a DVD player, never going to use it. It's a reg cab truck, not like I have kids to entertain or anything. And I dislike that it's biased towards an iPhone.
