I’m still confused. I have a 2021 Laramie Crew Cab with the Uconnect 8.4 inch display and Alpine nine speaker and subwoofer system. I think I would like to replace some speakers. Questions:

1) Are the front door 6x9 speakers just woofers or do they have midrange and or tweeter cones as well. Are there separate tweeters in the front doors as on the HK system? I have read that the front 6x9’s only receive bass frequencies such that substituting a multi range speaker is not helpful. PowerBass makes a 6x9 woofer. JBL and Infinity (both HK) have multirange replacements.

2) Similar question regarding the rear door 6x9’s. I have read that they are full range as opposed to just low range like the ones in the front doors. Is that true or all of the 6x9’s the same?

3) What kind of speakers are in the rear headliner? I have read both 3.5 and 2.5 inches, multirange or just tweeters? I have tried prying the grills off but stopped, afraid of breaking something. Does anyone have a picture of what’s behind the grill?

4). Got the dash speakers figured out since they’re easy to get to.

I’m an audiophile and experienced amateur 12 volt adventurer, and have learned over the years to take these sort of projects slowly and carefully; measure twice and cut once. The stereo sounds OK as is, and simpler is often better!

My rig came with the Alpine 9 speaker system, too.

Had new Focal speakers installed in all the doors and the dash corners.
2-ways in the front and 3-ways in the rear (6x9).

I also upgraded the head unit to a Kenwood DMX957XR, a pair of Kenwood amps (2100W total), a db 5-farad digital capacitor and a pair of Audiomobile EVO 2410's under the rear seat in sealed boxes stuffed with polyfil.

The Alpine center channel and two roof speakers, with the factory amp were then dialed in to only specifically act as surround speakers.

Everything was tuned to audio perfection and the system is highly detailed and clear in its sound delivery, especially the bass.

I just ordered speakers yesterday from Crutchfield for my 2024 Limited with the Alpine. The factory system in this truck is beyond terrible and I'm no audiophile (or phile of any kind).

They suggested:

Infinity Reference REF307F for the dash corner
Infinity Reference REF697F 2-way for the front doors
Infinity Reference REF697MF 3-way for the rear doors
Kicker KSC270 for the dash center

This came with all the wiring adapters needed and a bought the trim panel tools too.
He originally had all 4 doors using the 2-way speakers, but I opted for 3-ways in the rear doors for $30 more.

No idea how this is going to turn out for me. I've had issues with SiriusXM sound quality since day 1 - it is vastly different sound distribution (front loaded) than when listing to music from Carplay (more surround). But in my case, neither was comparable to my 2014 Laramie (Alpine) or my wife's 2016 Jeep GC (Harmon Kardon).

Stuff should arrive tomorrow - I'll likely start on it saturday.

Good call on the 3-ways in the rear door!
2-ways in the front are the way to go.

Are you upgrading the two speakers in the roof panel as well?

I do recommend that you get some good quality sound mat and line your doors while the panels are off for your speaker re&re.
Makes a world of improvement in sound quality by insulating things ;)

You would think a Limited would have sound insulation... this truck is the most quiet vehicle i've ever been in.

My Ram is also the quietest vehicle ever. I still have questions about what speakers fit in the headliner, and how to get their grills off. Has anyone replaced these and/or have any pictures of what’s behind holding the grills in place?

You would think, yes.

Perhaps in the 5th Gens they added more insulation in the doors specifically?
When you open the panels up you may find not, though.

Installed the dash speakers last night. The corner dash speakers alone made a huge difference. I'm not sure the change to the center dash speaker (stock to Kicker) was that noticeable. While Crutchfield told me the Infinity REF307F would not fit in the center, the OEM speakers are identical across the dash - same part number on the back "Made in China". The connectors made the corner install very easy... didn't work quite as well with the kicker.

I will tackle the doors this weekend, starting with the rear doors. Probably see how it sounds and make a decision on the front door.
There is such a huge difference in sound between XM stations - it's crazy.

I did lose some volume in the front, but not enough to worry about. Hope this helps @Shadrax

Sorry to butt in, haven't noticed a thread on this in particular before. I have a '21 Bighorn. My stock radio, 5 X 6 1/2" screen has always sounded nasel to me, gets irritating after a short time. Doesn't matter if it's radio music SXM, FM or AM talk that I usually listen to. It could be the speakers and not the radio itself? I have 3 dash speakers and one in each of the 4 doors.

Yep Crutchfield..tells you everything.
u-tubes most likely will tell you how to remove stuff.....my rear headliner speaker screens just pull down I believe...been awhile since I messed with that stuff...
Others on here know way more than I'll ever know about these trucks, listen to them.

I did all speakers except the rear headliners. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Worth every penny.

You CAN install Infinity Reference (3 ohm) in BOTH front and rear doors WITH Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). You just need to know the polarity is backwards. I didn't have a pin tool, so I cut the wires on the Metra connecters and swapped them (all 4 doors).

If you leave them as-is, the ANC is actually reproducing the cabin noise through the speakers instead of cancelling it.

Agreed, 3-way for the rear doors, which are the only full range from what I learned and mid-bass for the front doors. My wife and I installed sound deadening which really helped.

Regarding the rear headliner speakers I had Kenwood KFC X3C which I returned because they were marginally better than stock (my system 9 speakers Alpine 2023).
I replaced them with Infinity Kappa 203S which were much louder (bass) and clearer, A keeper which I recommend for the headliner speakers if you intend to use them. Rounds out the rear response with the rear door speakers being full range with the stock amp.
  • 2" silk dome midrange speakers
  • grilles and crossovers included
  • 3-ohm impedance
  • handles up to 50 watts RMS (150 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 500-7,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 94 dB at 2.83 volts
The grills clip in place and you have to pull hard to get the grill off. I've done it 4 time already and its sketchy...my last time one of the grills won't clip in because the headliner separated from the backing, so when I went to push the grill in, it won't clip. I glued it instead because I'm totally satisfied with the infinity.

You have 6x9s in front doors and the tweeters in the dash corners?
I just added an alpine sub and amp and would like more clean volume up front. Ive replaced all 3 dash speakers and rear doors as well.
Im thinking of those 6x9 focal components with a 100w x2 amp running them with the pac ch41. I just wonder how it would sound disconnecting the dash speakers and only using the 6x9 components.

* Fronts are Focal two-way's (tweeters for the dash and 6x9 front door speakers)
* Rears are Focal three-way's (6x9 rear door speakers)

I'd replace all 6 speakers (all doors & dash) with the same brand and line of speakers so you get a balanced sound with the clarity and detail you are looking for.

The dash speakers provide the highs and fill in to blend and balance with the front and rear door speakers.

So you removed the left and right dash speakers and installed the tweeters there? I think i read you still run the center dash also.

Correct, the stock dash speakers came out (left and right) and in went the Focal tweeters.

In my 19' I had only the stock 6-speaker system and had this set up installed nearer the end of my ownership on that one.

I had everything returned to stock on the 19' and put this system in my 23' (purchased new in Q1 24') that came with the OEM Alpine 9-speaker system.

My installer removed the stock Alpine sub, but left the amp, center channel and the two roof speakers and did his wizardry to set them up solely to act as surround to the rest of the upgraded system.

He timed/phased them perfectly and now the sound is even richer in detail because he retained those Alpine speakers and amp and incorporated them with my Focal speakers and Audiomobile 2410 EVO subs with a pair of Kenwood amps (total of 2100W output) and the db 5-farad digital capacitor.

Are you using some dsp or something? I wonder how he changed the factory amp running the center and the headliners. Maybe he just left them in place with how they run normally as fill?

My head unit (Kenwood DMX957XR) has DSP and DTA as well.

I don't know all the specifics of what he did or how, but the factory Alpine center speaker and two roof speakers only provide surround sound fill in to compliment the rest of the upgraded system components.

The sound quality and clarity are incredible to say the least!
