FYI! Just to put it out there, an H8 battery does NOT fit into a 2020 Ram 2500 with the 6.4L gas engine. You need to replace it with the H7 that originally came with the truck. There are no trays to remove or stops to take out. The battery tray has just enough room for an H7. Bummer I wasted so much time having to return the H8 and buy an H7.

Did you investigate the possibility of upgrading the battery tray to one that could accommodate an H8-sized battery?

My '21 Warlock has the removable spacer in the battery tray.

Thank you for reporting this. It's difficult enough hoisting a 70 pound lead brick out of there only to find you bought an incapable size. I have the H7 Oddyssey in mine.

@RamDiver - there are a number of quirks different on the Heavy Duty models compared to the Light Duty Models. And also between the 5.7 & 6.4 Hemi engines.

You should be able to remove a small spacer bracket to allow the longer h8 battery to fit.

Thanks for letting us know. I am going to have to measure the battery tray on my 2021 2500 so I don't go through the same issue. I wa sgoing to replace mine with an H8 too, when the factory battery got weak. I have always expected this one had the spacer too, but if your 2020 doesn't my 2021 likely doesn't either.

Take a picture of the bottom of your battery tray and post it.

Sorry I didn’t see this until now.

2022 2500 is the same way. No spacer in the tray. An H7 is the largest battery that will fit in the tray.

My 2018 2500 had the spacer. I had intended on putting an H8 in the 2022, but was disappointed when I pulled the battery to check.

This Costco H8 AGM battery has the 60/100 month as of May 14th this year at an Ottawa store.

Last year, IIRC, the replacement period was 84 months.
I didn't check the price of SLAs. Next time. :cool:

Wow - that thing looks like the 8D's we used for the big diesels (but 24VDC)! Great price, too.

Mebbe I'd better drive up there? 'Cept I'd get elbowed back off the new Gordie Howe International Bridge.

If you were motivated to install an H8, I'm confident you could get another suitable Mopar or aftermarket battery tray without breaking the bank.

However, if the existing H7 tray is shoe-horned into position, you may have less options.

Does there appear to be sufficient space to add a slightly longer tray?

You could ask Benny for a quote by sending him a PM @AllMoparParts.com .

Be sure to include your truck's VIN and that you want to be able to accommodate an H8 battery.

FYI, the Costco Energizer AGM H8 size is;
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 35.3 cm x 17.5 cm x 19.0 cm (13.94 in. x 6.94 in. x 7.50 in.)
The Costco Energizer AGM H7 size is;
  • Dimensions (L x W x H) : 31.5 cm x 17.5 cm x 19.0 cm (12.40 in. x 6.89 in. x 7.48 in.)

No, there is no spacer or anything to remove. The tray is made for a H7 only. I purchased a new H7 and installed it.

Well dang, they musta changed the battery tray on the newer ones. I bet an older battery tray would bolt right into place if you wanted the 8.

Putting in an H8 made sense when it was really easy to do. There is not enough advantage to the H8 to be worth messing around changing trays etc. Thanks Red, you saved me some messing around, will just put an H7 back in mine when I need a new battery.

This is a real longshot idea,but i wonder if the Canuck spec trucks might still get the older battery tray. We're Ma Mopars dumping ground for older parts,and it makes me wonder if the battery trays in the Canuck destination trucks might still get the earlier battery tray.

Could happen, I have seen many differences between CDN and U.S. spec Mopars in the past. Will find out for sure when I get to the point of needing a battery but I can say that by looking at the battery and tray, it does not appear to have any extra room in it towards the firewall, like the old ones did.
