What's the Pioneer sub PN? This sounds like a worthy upgrade...

TXCOMT
It’s a really long number... TSW... something. Just google it as it will pop up.

for those who upgraded to the pioneer subs

does you sub work (normally) with regular radio and or xm?

my sub only hits hard with usb or bluetooth from phone, radio or xm - the bass is there but its not powerful, feels like just a 6.5" not a 8" subwoofer.

I cant figure it out, and I want to add in a amp but dont understand why the current system gives the subwoofer different rms levels on different inputs.

Most likely has nothing to do with the sub and more to do with the crappy signal from radio and XM.

Thanks BB.

I 'thought' I lined up the tabs with the dash speakers... but it seemed like the depth was a bit shallow, no matter what orientation the speaker (GX302) was in. I compared the JBLs to the factory ones... and they looked a tad deeper overall.

I may take the dash speakers back out, to solder the connections at the speaker... just to confirm they won't fall off (since I sort of half-@ssed it and cut the tabs on the positive terminals).

Thanks for the info on the sub too... I was wondering which adapters to get, since I forgot to order the dash ones ahead of time. Maybe I'll do that for a 'birthday' gift...

Take care.

^^ This ^^

Factory Amp is problematic , simplify your life

Think AmpPro or DSR1

For those that have put in the Pioneer 8" sub... was/is a significant improvement in bass? Not just deep, low-end bass... but loudness?

Thinking of pulling the trigger on one, now that I did the door and dash speakers.

Thanks for any further thoughts/opinions.

Based on your profile pic, nothing in the factory enclosure will hold up to Lamb of God. LOL

If you want to stay small, you could look into an 8W7 in a ported enclosure on a separate amp.

You will be disappointed at first, but once it breaks in it is a noticeable improvement, not loudness but clarity, the stock sub is just a *************

Ultimately you will need to put an amp on it, might as well plan to get a AmpPro or a DSR1 out of the box and save yourself the headache of dealing with the roll off associated with the factory amp

I think it is a pay me now and pay me later or just pay now type of decision

Well, I'll see what it does next week... picked up a 8" Pioneer (TSW-whatever it is) on Ebay yesterday, with a 20% off (sitewide) coupon. Came to ~$54.00 with free shipping. :) Couldn't pass it up.

The lack of low-end (now), is killing me. I don't need my windows to rattle... but there's like nothing. However, I'm still quite pleased with the JBL upgrade. Just need a skohsh-more bass.

So the sub in question is a Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 8-inch shallow-mount, correct? The Ram owners who reviewed the sub on Amazon say it's a direct replacement, so that's cool. Wow, yet another mod it sounds like I must do!

It is better bass, not more, you can put in a 15" and it still will not be able to overcome the roll off built in to the factory amp as to not damage the cheap factory drivers

Yes, that is the correct P/N. It arrived while I was on vacation... hope to get it in this weekend. :)

Please keep us posted on the install and sound, G, as I just read about someone else here who's dumping his Pioneer sub. Apparently, the thing just didn't have enough punch for him. I'm no audiophile, so I'm betting this model would be fine for me.

He dumped it bc he had unrealistic standards for the upgrade. Its a single 8" sub with 150w going to it... its not going to BOOM and shake the truck. Its only purpose is to add "depth" to the system and round it out a bit. My last 14 ram i put in a single 12" pioneer shallow under the rear pass seat and 400w RMS mono amp and it kicked decent and Ive had large systems in the past. The 8" sub works well for what it is but don't expect ALOT, you might get a smidge more bass but it will be cleaner and less distorted. Without the sub you can hear a substantial difference so it definitely helps!

Only way to get more BASS is to add to the woofer size and the power going to it.
