Honestly I'm having a difficult time finding exact differences. They're both a monotube shock/strut. The 6112s are 60mm or 2.35" and have an application specific coil. 5100s are 46mm which is just under a 2.0, and they use the oem coil. The bigger body just allows the damping and valving to feel a bit more supple and smoother when things get rough at speeds, but honestly for Dd applications they may not seem super different. I wanted something that can handle double duty, work and play, and bilsteins have a lifetime warranty, are usually corrosion resistant better than say kings, and are huge compared to other struts. I'm sure with the available eibach front coils the everyday performance between the 2 would be comparable, heavy offroad use at speed is where these would have bigger differences. I had 5100s on my f150 and wanted to try something else as they were EH at best for me. I can say even maxed out these 6112s do ride way better, I feel that's half from their overall size and 1/2 because the coils are designed to run under preload compared to the oem becoming harsher. I have the 5100s in the rear and they are a great upgrade, I just think the 6112s are better suited to the heavier use the front suspension sees. There's no replacement for displacement in shocks, the bigger they are the better they feel, even in a situation where all things are equal.
The rear coils have been awesome. They ride like stock, if not a bit more supple, but I only gained about 1" lift max. I'm still messing with my rear combination a bit, check out my thread on the full bilstein lift kit. My 6112s raised the truck more than expected and the rear coils a bit less, so I'm still sitting about level, while I was hoping for 1" rake. I'm waiting for things to settle as I log some miles and will keep it updated. These are similar price to eibachs rear coils, which is a toss up for me, they should both ride similar, and the eibachs lifted mikes truck about 1.5" so if towing or a bit more rake is what your after I'd lean towards them, but these billies are great upgrade as well, just not much height to them. I might grab a set of 3/4" spacers for the rear down the road, still on the fence about things.

So far it's settled a 1/2 up front. The rear settled in and I had to shim my drivers side 1/2 to hold level side to sideLooks good. Make sure you post a picture and remeasure after you put some miles on her to see how much she settles.

Got my Bilsteins installed this week. Set at 2.1" with nothing in the back. Would like to go to a 275/65 AT tire, but may just wait until these stock 275/60 SRAs are worn out (only 8k on them now).

Bilstein 5100s and a 3/4" TGC spacer in the rear to match the 5100s set at 2.8" and new UCAs in the front.
Tires are Cooper Discoverer ATP 275/65R20s on the stock Sport 20" rims with no spacers, and I had previously swapped to TufTruck 1211 springs in the rear. I'm waiting until the alignment to do my final measurements.
Man looks great2.8 Billies, 305x55x20 Nitto Terra Grapplers on Fuel 20x9 (0 offset). No rubbing.
So you did the 285's first and then the lift. Did you notice anything negative when running the 285's without a lift?
