Hey y’all, I picked up eight surplus 50 cal Ammo cans for about thirty bucks yesterday. I want to use two of them as storage containers for the bed of my truck, but am trying to figure out what to do with them. I know one of them I’m going to set up as a tool kit with sockets on the lid etc, but the can going on the other side of the bed I’m not sure about. Kind of thinking of throwing my general purpose small stuff I use when camping or working in there, like ductape, paracord etc. if anyones got any suggestions for what to throw in them, or even if I should set up a third one, please let me know!

Tie downs, jumper cables, tow straps, etc

Set one up as a first aid kit
I did end up doing that. I’ve got one that’s a pretty comprehensive first aid kit and trauma kit (I’m Emt qualed), I’ve got one set up for my chainsaw Sawyers kit so it has some basic spare parts tools and gas mix with bar oil as well. Got a third one I use for ammo when transporting it, another I’ve painted red and labels for my explosives, and a fifth one I’ve yet to do anything yet. I normally leave my Sawyers kit one and my medical one in the truck, but have had all four I use in there before as well.

I like the ‘Explosives’ idea. That’ll give someone something to think about seeing it :waytogo:

As an EMT myself and now working towards my nursing degree I have kept an ammo can with a trauma kit as well as one set up as a first aid kit. It works well and because they are sealed I am not concerned about water getting inside.

Yeah that’s the main reason I got em in the first place. They are pretty damn durable and after replacing the bad seal on one of them, all water resistant/proof. Good luck on the nursing program! I’m sticking with my emt for now because I work fire and forestry, though down the line I might try and go for my paramedic.

Thank you both ( Forestry_Ridge & RangerWeaver) for your service :waytogo:

The bed of my truck is decently clean right now, but I’ve got that ammo can back there with my sawyers kit(also has a small personal first aid kit), one of my saws, and a jerry can. Keep my medical can in the cab.
