So i have read a few post and a bit confused. I read that with my oem steps I won’t need to install the rivet nuts I can use the factory, then I read I can’t. If I need to install amp hardware pack how do I get the factory ones out?

You will need to drill out the OEM rivnuts so you can install the reinforcement plate that comes with the amp steps, then install the new rivnuts. But it sounds like since you bought them used you probably do not have the plates or new rivnuts?

With that said I did not do that, I just used the existing OEM rivnuts and did not install the reinforcement plates. But I'm not a heavy guy so I wasn't too worried about it. Pretty much no one over 180bs ever steps on mine. If you have some larger/heavier people you expect to be stepping on them I would get those plates in for sure.
So far I've had no issues but proceed at your own risk if you do not put the plates in

I did buy the hardware kit just in case. How hard would it be to drill them out? Anyone do this before?

Drilling would probably be easiest. IMO having the plate is good insurance. If they pull out it's a pretty big repair unless your a good welder or fabricator

Going to be a pain in the a$$ to drill them out. Got to be real careful not make the existing hole any bigger but drill the head out right up to where it cuts through so you can pry off the head and knock the rest of the rivnut into the body. Probably going to need a right angle drill as well.

I think it would probably be fine unless your a really big guy. All u can do it's try it and see. I will say this. File the directions. They have u tighten things down in a specific order and I think people don't follow that and have issue with alignment. If the holes in your pinch weld don't line up with the brackets loosen the brackets until you can get the screws started. Then cinch them up it'll draw them in where they need to be. That's what I had to do. Mine never hung up or were crooked at all from the get go.
