A little over 6,000 pickup trucks were produced by Ram for model years 2016 through 2020 with defective airbag inflators. According to the recall documentation filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the suspect population comprises 1500 through 3500 Chassis Cab vehicles with curtain airbag inflators from Auburn Hills-based Joyson Safety Systems.
Controlled by Ningbo Joyson Electronic Corp and PAG Capital, the company was previously known as Key Safety Systems. After purchasing and integrating Takata, it became Joyson Safety Systems in April 2018. The automaker started looking into the suspect inflators in August 2023. The subsequent investigation determined that suspect pickup trucks were built with inflators from lots that had been exposed to moisture.

Moisture causes internal corrosion over time, which may result in a rupture upon deployment. In a similar fashion to Takata's deadly airbag inflators, the ones produced by Joyson Safety Systems for the subject Ram pickup trucks may cause injuries or worse.

Thankfully for affected customers, FCA US LLC is not aware of any reports potentially related to the described concern. The North American side of Stellantis will gladly replace all potentially corroded inflators with modules produced outside the suspect period. Be that as it may, dealer communications reveal that replacement side curtain airbag inflators are not available yet. Even so, the recall is estimated to launch this quarter.

Dealers were notified on January 23, 2025. Owner notification letters, meanwhile, will be mailed in the period between February 13, 2025 and February 20, 2025. Owners can easily tell if their Rams are recalled by running the VIN on the Mopar division's recall web page. Affected vehicles were assembled stateside and in Mexico alike.

How can Takata's / Joyson still even be in business anymore?
Another case of too big to fail. Government supported. Not sufficient competition in the marketplace.

Pay almost 100k Canadian for a loaded truck like these now you'd Think there'd be more government regs on QA and lemons. Canada's lemon laws suck. The loaded diesel I want is 120k Canadian, the worst part is as an x mechanic I don't trust dealerships to do the warranty work I do it all myself out of pocket. I wish I could buy a brand new vehicle at a lower price with no warranty..

We're going through the Malaise Era again. Too many government regs and too much new tech which isn't as reliable as it should be. Costs are up and quality is down across the board. Biggest problem is it's so hard to break into the auto market now the odds of some new company offering a simple and reliable vehicle that undercuts the major brands are pretty much zero. A lot of people have imported Kei trucks from Asia, but states are outlawing them just about as fast as they can come in. The level of graft and corruption between industry and government is sickening.
