I'm looking to buy one because I don't like the idea of a freely open and available gas cap so looking for any feedback on this.

I had one years ago on my Jeep Cherokee. I worried about it freezing up in the winter.

What do you mean, is there a risk the gas cap can freeze up vs the OEM gas cap?

The locking gas caps have a key slot where water makes its way in and freezes, yes. I worried enough about it to just go back to the regular cap.

I have one on my truck, it works ok, kinda tough to get a key in that space but it fits. It doesn't come with a lanyard, just reuse your old one

x2, don't fool yourself into thinking a locking gas cap is going to do much. Everyone I've always had kept freezing up in the winter months.

Fortunately I live in the South where it might freeze for about 4 hours a year, every 4 years, heh. At least it's a little more deterrent to someone with foolish thoughts on their mind.

Exactly, I didn’t buy mine to prevent someone stealing gas, it was more to prevent someone from putting stuff in my tank....vandalism

I have the stant locking gas cap off Amazon for my 2016 sport. Twice this past winter it froze up due to moisture in the lock. This happens due to temperature variations. Anyone who is old enough will remember their parents always having to put lock de-icer in the car door locks back in the day or else they'd be frozen up and the key wouldn't go in at all. I got the key in with some prying and pounding on it but it was frustrating as I let the gas go down to almost zero.

I just keep a can of that lock de-icer in the truck just Incase. Haven’t needed it yet.
