Hey Guys,

I am in the market for a new set of black headlights as I start my blackout on my truck. I was going to take mine apart and paint them, but they are really scratched and look like ****. I have tried sanding them with no luck. So, my budget is around $160. Not much, I know, but it's what I have.

My options are to buy a set of stock off ebay or amazon that already have the black bezels. I can get the pair for about $160 and free shipping. Or I can buy something like these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dodge-RAM-0...ge|Model:Ram+2500&vxp=mtr&hash=item35b7250d70

I'm not sure how the halos will look on my truck. I have a 2006 megacab.

I had ones VERY similar...and the quality was horrible. The light output sucked, and then about a year after I bought them, the halos started to die. IMO, bank your money, and get a set from JJ.

Do you think the quality from Rockauto would be better than the ones from Amazon?

I'd go with a set of OEM's if you could. That way you won't have to worry about quality near as much

We've actually been chatting. :D

With new headlights + the cost of paint, my time (labor), etc - we are well past the budget unfortunately.

As for the quality of aftermarket lights, there are some that are GREAT, some downright suck ass.

Anything with cheesy halos and LEDs on eBay........suck ass (for quality!)
Depo = suck ass (very thin!)
TYC - I love 'em. I use them on EVERY set that I do (where the customer wants a new set).

So......TYC happens to sell some 06 Black (NightRunner) lights. The part numbers are 20-6747-90 and 20-6748-90. They are about $100 each, but better than the Depos I have heard about (fitment issues on the Depos).

Yeah the Night Runner's are what I am running. They run $200-$250 for the set. I got the OEM for obvious quality reasons. You can't go cheap on headlights...especially eBay. You'll wind up with moisture inside after a few stormy drives. Just keep saving up and don't skimp in this area.

Same here with the condensation. I had to pull mine back out, wait for one to dry then seal them both back up. I haven't had an issue with them since then but I never should've to begin with

I have talked to headlights depot and not sure if I will go that way or not. If I do, I will make sure to seal them before I put them on. Who is TYC ?

TYC is an aftermarket brand of headlights, typically used as crash replacement parts. I have played with a headlight or 300 and out of the aftermarket brands, TYC kicks ass. Quite a few forum members here with lights from me who are running TYCs. :D

Okay, thanks. I also found someone that has a used pair off of a 2006 that will fit my truck. I am going to look at them this coming weekend. He said they are perfect with no scratches and the price is $40. If they are in great shape, should I buy them and paint them? Would be a hell of a lot cheaper! I'm a little worried about how hard they are to get apart using the oven and then painting them.

$40, you better buy them!

They aren't the easiest to open, so have patience!
