so.for you who aren't in the sunbelt, how do you guys pull your trailers, carry your sleds, make your dump runs, make any food/booze runs in extremely inclement weather, maybe pull your boats if your trucks are tucked in all nice and cozy? no way would i drive my family around in winter conditions in a winter beater when i have a 4x4 sitting in my driveway, but that's just me.it's like not hanging pictures in your house because you don't want to put a hole in your wall,or not driving your high dollar side by side because you might break something.your truck, your rules,i'm just trying to wrap my head around the logic.
I was thinking it's more like not banging your girlfriend so you can save her for the next guy. :)

While I wouldn't poke fun of anyone for taking their truck off the road in the winter, I personally would never do it. That's why I have a truck in the first place - to use it. Philosophically, I like to own things, not be owned by them. Whatever vehicle I have, I'm going to drive it year round.
I do try to keep salt corrosion to a minimum ( rinsing off undercarriage after launching boat and frequent car washes in the winter) but I'm not going to be a ***** to stuff I own.

I don't completely put mine away for the winter, but I don't drive it much in snowy weather which means there is salt on the road. That is unless the snow is really bad. For ice or light snow my car handles much better on slippery roads. The truck only goes out if the snow is deep enough where the car has trouble getting around. And that is pretty rare. We get a decent amount of snowstorms but rarely get more than a few inches at a time, and they start putting down salt before the first snowflake hits the ground and begin plowing immediately. Point being that just about any place I NEED to go gets a lot of attention.

My Gen2 has been wintered but being a 2500 rwd Cummins, it isn't the best for traction on ice.
Moved to warmer recently so not a problem now.
The wintering did help keep the miles low. 129,000/1994

I quit buying good tires for the wifes last couple of Challengers,as she'd go through a set of rear tires every summer. I started buying the cheapest 305/20's i could get my hands on for her cars, lol Damn women goes through front brakes and rear tires way more then me,and telling her to coast up to redlights instead of driving right to them, then hitting the brakes only gets me in trouble, but i swear i've put dents in the pass side floorboard from pushing on that imaginary brake pedal when she's driving, lol
Mother was like that ,Drove Dad nuts as he never ever drove fast. My wife hated riding with her when the kids where little ,way before kids seats where the norm. and dogs landing on the dash.
if you really have withdrawal from polishing , I could drive over some time. I have some wax that is about 8 yrs old

mine goes on a battery tender the end of camping season and sometimes will not move until march when the weather clears up. if we have a nice day or two in the winter i might drive it to work just to exercise it but that is it. it basically hauls my camper and makes trips to lumber land once in awhile . hard to fit 4x8 sheets of plywood in the car .

You would of loved riding with my Dad,he was colour blind and couldn't tell the differance between Green and Red,he was okay driving around Kindersley, but put him in Saskatoon / Calgary or Edmonton and it was hair raising. There were lots of times Mom and us kids were yelling at him telling him it was a Redlight, lol. As soon as i was old enough to have a learners permit,i did all the driving if we went to the city ;)

NYS is insane with the salt and brine spray killing vehicles by the droves.
Great looking rig, I live in Rochester where they use the Mag chloride and rock salt in massive quantities all ready, I have a 2019 5 gen Laramie that won't be violated by salt and pepper they put on the roads in NYS, I drive a front wheel drive beater for the winter that I try to keep the salt off of, are you driving the gray one for the winter?

Nope grey sits in shop. The wife has the orange one all year round. Needed a crew cab for kids coming down the road. She has the auto 4wd for her winter drive and mine pulls the camper and car trailer and will last me years to come.

i got front end clipped in Kindersley in the 1990's ( my 1994 Ram) on a icy street, One guy in town that I could see and slid through a stop sign and got me, Cone to think about it, another Chev guy. Got to stay away from them. My son worked for GM at that time in Kindersley .

Haha she's from here her trucks from down south.I got a Intrepid R/T with snows that I'd much rather drive through the crap. Nice southern ride too with 4 snows goes through anything. I find it funny most people thought I was nuts parking my truck but the more expensive they get the more poeple I work with and such are parking theirs as well. No one wants a constant $800 a moth payment anymore. If ya can buy em in cash more power to ya, but I am enjoying my clean and paid off rig. I don't wanna shell out more and I really like the classic which they stopped making.

In my town , we don't have salt on the streets, Highways will if it needs it, but we don't end up with bad rust if you look after them, but I do see older ones with rust on rear wheel fenders, GM seems the worst.
My truck sits more in the garage as the wife has a hip problem that is going on over 2 yrs and so we use the car if she goes. But I run my truck myself, depending on which is already dirty.
When I was working I had work trucks, and the good one. RAM, was for the trips to the city, or town.
The good ol "goin' ta town truck"

Am I crazy for doing this? Its the perfect winter vehicle here in central Ontario: quality winter tires on steel rims, heated seats, bed cover, ram boxes, remote start, 4WD etc etc

Its just that I want to keep it in the pristine condition its in. I bought a 2016 Malibu for my winter driver. It also has snows, remote, heated seats etc. But in a recent snow event we had here, I cringed driving it, and I sure do miss my Ram.

Anyone else ?

I don't drive my 2001 Dodge Ram SLT Laramie (short cab, long box, 2WD 5.2L) in the winter. It's got 74k km (46k miles) on it, hardly any rust on it anywhere. I live in London Ontario, so I know what you mean about rust and winter. It wouldn't do very well after a major over-night snow dump anyways.

My daily driver is an '04 300m, with SUV-class snow tires in the front, it pulls through snow deeper than the floor-boards. Nothing stops it in the winter. When that car gets too ratty to drive, I've got 3 more 300m's in storage to take it's place.
