At least it's a dry heat and not the swamp heat that we get here in the south. All that said though, I love it. I can sit outside and sweat my rear end off and never complain an ounce. As soon as it drops below 60 though my joints hurt, my sinuses go nuts, and it just sucks to be outside.

But the point is that heat is terrible for your trucks too. Delamination of materials in the interior, faded paint and other plastics etc.

I've seen pics of jelly bean dispensers where it's just one giant blob of mixed colors all run together, plastic slides on a playground that's all deformed and dripping off in pieces. Hard to say if that's better or worse for your truck than salt in the winter.

For me personally, I still like the different seasons. We get snow and cold and bright/crisp Februaries, lush green and vibrant springs, moderately hot summers where you can swim in the great lakes or the thousands of Ontario rivers and not freeze your family jewels, bright yellow, orange and red autumns... variety is the spice of life!

Besides, that cold winter air is good for ya, kills off lots of nasty stuff outside and makes you appreciate the other 3 seasons when you can walk outside carefree once again.

so.for you who aren't in the sunbelt, how do you guys pull your trailers, carry your sleds, make your dump runs, make any food/booze runs in extremely inclement weather, maybe pull your boats if your trucks are tucked in all nice and cozy? no way would i drive my family around in winter conditions in a winter beater when i have a 4x4 sitting in my driveway, but that's just me.it's like not hanging pictures in your house because you don't want to put a hole in your wall,or not driving your high dollar side by side because you might break something.your truck, your rules,i'm just trying to wrap my head around the logic.
For me, I always lived where I could ride my snowmobile to stores, restaurants, trails for hours, without having to trailer it. I always had nice, safe, well-maintained front wheel drive vehicles with 4 snow tires that never got stuck in deep snow, climbed the mountains I regularly drove up and down. I always customize my trucks and drive them for 10+ years and sometimes they overlap. I want them to look as nice underneath as they do in the surface. And I feel much more comfortable in the fwd vehicles in heavy snow and icy conditions as they weigh less so starting and stopping in them is more sure-footed to me. And I have driven many trucks in winter plowing, bombing around, etc. and have hundreds of thousands of miles in both types to make that judgement. But everybody do what they want, what works for me is just that.

My wife is complaining about mid 40s here, I am so not looking forward to the dialogue when it actually gets cold. Used to spend fair amounts of my winters in Ottawa, that was cold. But it was fun, hanging on the canal, regularly going to Senators games and then out downtown after.

View attachment 556504My 2012 was never in the garage for 10 yrs i owned it, with no Rust. Lost it 2 yrs ago, to a bad truck driver? What makes rust is winter salt melting while still on the body. So i always washed my Ram when needed? I have 34 washes on my Kwik Trip wash card right now. So i look forward to many more rust free years on my replacement 2013 Ram R/T!!View attachment 556501View attachment 556502
I don't know whether to like the story of care or use the cry emoji for the pictures.

I don't disagree at all.
Your previous baby was quite the exception to the normal rule of thumb for our domestic trucks ;)
My 2018 2500 appears, in multiple sites, to be worth (private party sale) right what I paid for it brand new. Since I paid it off soon after buying it I could about break after over 5 years of driving. But I am keeping this for at least another 5. My 2003 2500 I bought new for about $17k new and sold it 17 years later for about $6k. It didn't owe me anything and current owner loves it.

Only problem truck was a Ford 250 Super Duty FX4. $6k in front drive damage due to faulty parts right after buying it. Fought with dealer to get it fixed under warranty. Sold it and bought my 2003. All my trucks have been good (Chevy, Ram) except that one.

Hay Rick I know you sold the Drag Truck; did you replace it with anything?
Not yet. We stepped back from racing after the wife busted up her gas pedal leg, wasn't the same going to the track with out her. If she heals up to the point of being able to race again,we might get back into it again, but honestly i'm not really missing it much, lol. I've been racing everything with wheels for 50+ years, and it's nice not having to worry about going to the track every week-end,especially since my closest 1/4 mile track is 155 miles from my driveway.
if we do get back into racing,my buddy has a 15 Hellcat with just under 600kms / 400 miles on it,that he'll sell me for a really good price.Only downside is it's black, and i swore up and down years ago i'd never own another black toy,lol

I keep my truck waxed and all my windows (including the windshield) are tinted. Never really had a problem with the heat or sun, but I get your point. I've also seen cars that look like they've taken quite the beating from the sun.

It's easier for me to wax the top side than have to worry about the bottom side getting eaten away from trapped water and salt.

The winter air flares up my sinuses and despite two sinus surgeries, I get a ton of sinus infections this time of year and it flares up my rosacea (which is a pretty new thing I've developed). Plus all of the joint aches. Guess I'm getting old. :Big Laugh:

I can get to 70+ weather and some humidity and all of my sinus issues (if I'm near the ocean), joint aches, and even the rosacea goes away within a day.

To each their own I guess. :)

I've read a lot of posts here with concerns about undercarriages rusting out. Maybe others have had different experiences with but it has not been my experience in the past
we left family behind...lol...both of us retired, so we moved to a more tax friendly state. We do run into people from NY down here once in a while. People are really friendly here, at first we thought some thing was wrong. lol They just don't want you to bring that NY MENTALITY with you. ha ha

our kids come visit once or twice a year and bring all the luggage with them for a week. let me tell ya, we saved a ton of money moving out of NYS. Property taxes went from 7500/year to 1900/year. plus, kentucky is a constitutional carry state, if that's important to ya. Not too much road rage here because of that...LOL Again, you actually feel FREE living out of NY and in the south.
I don't know what part of New York you came from but I can show you some hillbillies out here in the mountains who have a strong tendency to live on the free side.

I haven't read through, just though I'd chime in. Both our cars are 'grocery getters' as opposed to 'daily drivers' as we are retired and don't drive at all some days. when we do we alternate vehicles, either my Ram or her 2011 Eclipse. Keeping the batteries charged and the juices flowing!

The Ram sees the most use so it gets a Fluid Film annually. We haven't even had 1 inch of snow if we add all the flurries together this winter season, although we often see overnight temps in the teens Fahrenheit.

It started snowing at 9am today and didn't stop till about 8pm. (the plows quit around 6pm)
I leave at 11:15 PM so I got to use 4Hi the whole 24 miles to work but this thing is a beast in the snow...
My mileage drops from 15mpg average to 13mpgs but I don't think that's bad for a 3/4ton truck on 35s...
Fortunately, I didn't see another vehicle the whole way in so I didn't have to pass someone white knuckling it in my lane...

I’m in Arkansas so “winter” isn’t much. I have a loaded ‘13 Malibu as well as my old ‘08 Sport. When it does ice over there’s no comparison to the truck. The car does ok but I have been immobile in a frozen parking lot with only one wheel spinning. Pretty useless with the traction control on too.

The backwoods offers tranquility and the call of the wild. But there is the same darkness as there is anywhere else. Divorce, infidelity, child abuse, **********, spousal abuse, dishonesty, malicious gossip, to name a few. Wilderness, yes. But people too.

Funny story...a temp worker that use to work at my old employer had about a 2000 Dakota 4x4. This was around 2003 so the truck was pretty new. He would not drive his truck in the snow. His other vehicle...a motorcycle. So he would ride his motorcycle to work when it was snowing. He was in front of me going through the gate one morning and he went to might a slight turn into a parking space and wiped out...lol

We are expecting about 10 inches of snow Sunday into Monday, and I was out and got stuck driving in the brine they pretreat with. Went to car wash near me, and now truck is tucked into the garage until this weather passes.

I crack myself up!
