I bought mine for one move that I'm going to make. Just one. That's all I "need" it for. In the meantime its good to have more truck than what I need. It has also allowed me to sell my other two vehicles and a utility trailer because it serves all the purposes of all of those.

I love my 1500 and don’t really tow. My wife recently started talking about doing the RV/TT type thing. She might not be too serious right now, but I was online building a 2500 with a quickness :D

Then start building a 3500 rather than a 2500. I wish I would have gone 3500 over my 2500 but in 2015 we had no time or desire for a 5th wheel which is why I went 2500 and 6.4. Now of course we want a 1 ton SRW Mega Cab.

They really don't ride that different. I drove both, 2500 & 3500 twice while shopping for a truck. Is it a little stiffer, yeah, it's a little stiffer. So what. Actually considered the 3500 but they were all optioned to the hilt. Anywhere from about $54k to $80k. I got my 2500 CC LB 6.4 4X4 4.10s for $40k out the door. Done deal.

I guess I'm the opposite of most of yall. If I didn't do construction out of mine and haul tools/ material daily and pull a dump trailer I would go for the 1500. Its quicker, easier to park, rides better and gets better mileage. I wouldnt worry about the low pay load number with what you are hauling. If you're looking at getting a huge boat with triple axel trailer or big camper go for the big truck, but those 1500s are more stout than we like to admit. My dad has a 17 1500 sport and I'd much rather ride in it than my truck when given the choice. But when it comes to hauling a pallet of quickrete or making a loaded dump run, the big 6.4 is where it's at

If you have your finances in order don’t even bother trying to justify getting what you want. This is America, buy the truck you want. If someone has a problem with it who cares. Seems a lot of people believe we have to somehow “justify” owning an HD truck. (This is not directed at the OP). Like unless you tow 10k every other day you have no business owning one… Its nonsense. Everyone uses a vehicle for different reasons and almost every vehicle on the road is being underutilized somehow. What about guys who own muscle cars or super cars? How often are you using that HP? And the ranting and raving about Nurburgring times… lol… how many Camaro owners have ever or will ever track their car? I’ll wait. Not to mention HD trucks now aren’t so archaic as they once were. They are actually getting pretty refined. Which is a huge reason I had no worries stepping up to a 2500 Ram. HD trucks have never been better.

I have only towed with mine a few times and did daily drive it for a period. No complaints at all but the height can be a bit much sometimes. Especially if you level it and put bigger tires. I use the truck for the payload and as a do anything vehicle. Have taken plenty of road trips, done some off roading. I always know the Ram will get me through anything and it has never let me down in any way yet. You won’t regret an HD Ram.

Unless I missed something, I really don’t think anyone in particular is trying to actually dissuade the OP from getting a HD. Actually quite the opposite, in fact. ‘Course, like he said a while back, he did post his topic in the HD section so that’s kinda to be expected but if that’s what he really wants, or if it’s what anybody else for that matter who reads this thread wants, then by all means, get it. Hell if somebody only wants to use it to take the kids to school or go get groceries in a HD, one-ton, dually, diesel mega cab converted long bed- do it. Lol. Have fun drivin’ that school bus. But hey, if that school bus-sized truck makes ya happy, then that’s all that matters.

Just weigh in the pros and cons first before ya buy because you certainly don’t wanna start having regrets later on after you realize you bought way more truck than ya thought ya needed.

I’ve towed with mine and also loaded the bed up with well over a ton of payload (bags of conrete, dirt, yards of mulch) this truck doesn’t care. If your coming from a 1/2 ton, ride is going to be choppy but less so than other brands. I got the 3/4 for payload and i don’t do long enough trips, IE 4-5 miles each way won’t let the diesel warm up properly. Wife loves to take the truck when I don’t have it, she speeds in it

Do to the size, my wife dislikes driving the HD, so after nearly 3 years it still has no dents. Win/win..
Yep. Mine won’t drive my tank around either. Darn lol.

Nah nobody has really given me any reason not to. Lol. My main concern would be that I park in a parking garage at work and the clearance is 6’8. I’d be pretty limited with being able to level or put on larger tires, if that would fit at all. We have a f350 dually that parks in here, but no lift and I believe the rams are a little taller than the fords. I really just need to go drive a few and measure them to see.

Those garages are tight. I don’t have to deal with them at all. Country livin haha. But man a hd ram is just a beast and she’s fun to drive. I think after having hd I couldn’t go back to 1500 even if I lived in the city.

Currently have a 2010 1500 crew cab with the 5’7 bed. It’s getting up there in miles and starting to think about what I’ll need when I need to replace it. I’m considering a 2500 for a couple reasons - the longer bed and increased payload. My current truck has a ranch hand bumper, just got a weather guard tool box, and I’m 225 lbs. That alone gets me close to a third of my payload, not counting all the stuff I keep in the truck with me, my wife, extra stuff for road trips, etc. I only see this getting worse as we try to start a family in the next few years. I’m also somewhat regularly frustrated with my short bed having to put the tailgate down and use tie downs when with a longer bed I could easily just put the tailgate up and be fine.

Anyone else have the same feelings and move up? Wondering if I’m crazy for even considering it.

I am in the same boat as you. Have a 16 CC shortbed with a payload of around 1200 pounds. Filled up with a tank of gas, my wife and two dogs plus cargo we get dangerously close to the payload of the vehicle. With a baby on the way and all the extra that goes along with them as well I am looking into a gas 2500 megacab. Extra space will be nice plus about 2 1/2 times the payload for when I actually need it for wood or stone. Pretty sad when you cant even put a pallet of stone in your truck bed and have to make two trips for it because its 2x your payload. Plus even if you don't tow now doesnt mean you cant possibly in the future so if you plan on keeping it a few years you won't need to buy another new truck if you decide to get a trailer.

Both of these are true. Current 1500s can tow a lot. But to get up there you're often risking the *posted anyway* limits of frame and/or powertrain. And getting there/beyond starts to present additional safety concerns. So if thinking of towing that much an HD makes sense. If not, either works. The HD would just be a bit more stable most likely. And for the family side as mentioned in my last post the HD does have a tad more room even without the MegaCab, but it's not a deal breaker over the 1500.

One downside I forgot to mention corneileous covered. Although the 1500s have gotten bigger the HDs are bigger yet. Stock they're as high as some Chevy's, etc. with lifts. You'll need at least 7 feet of clearance to park in a garage. And if you lift it, forget 'em. They take up more of a lane in traffic as well which can be interesting at times. It might not fit in your garage even with the short bed (if you have one).

Yea the 1500s can tow a lot but the issue is all the posted numbers are usually the single cab 4x2 with max tow packages that anyone with a family or who lives north of the middle states of the country wouldnt be purchasing. Dont get me wrong I could pull a 8k trailer with mine but thats realistically the max of it but with payload included on 8k trailer I would be over payload probably by 400 pounds. What I like about the 2500's is that a 4x4 crew cab is perfectly capable of pulling 12-14k no problem and doing it safely.

Must be nice being out there. My office job (and my wife working in a hospital system) has us in the suburbs/city for now, but in a few years hopefully we can move out a ways and get rid of this parking garage issue!

You'd be surprised what you can fit a 2500 HD into parking lot wise! It isn't all that wide, but it doesn't turn as tight as a 1500(assuming the 1500 can turn as tight as an F150). I would get the 2500, but put something on the doors to keep from constantly getting creamed by someone else kicking their doors open! Maybe something with teeth! Anyway, I don't tow, I do load the bed with over 1200lbs of stuff every month...and I will be taking mine off road for fun (I have a Power Wagon), but honestly, once you start driving a HD you'll never go back to a smaller PU. You can do so much more, more than you realize you were missing out on! This is my first HD pickup, have always owned 1/2 ton trucks, Ford, GMC, and an old Dodge, but I have never enjoyed a truck so much over the years! Get what you want, definitely drive them! You'll see.

I don't want to help other people move heavy stuff...that's why I got a 1500!

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Well then don’t do like I did. I bought a little 10-foot utility trailer to act as my truck bed for when I need to do truck stuff and uh, my little half-ton is quite capable.
