Ok, so for the 8.4 system we are supposed to have the apps like Pandora etc right on the screen. They said that we will have an option on our Mopar Owner Connect page to add the apps.

I logged in today to get my owners manual and sure enough there is a tab now for "Via Mobile" access and a place to setup your username and passwords for the apps you use like Iheart and Pandora.

So I did all of that, but I'll be damn if I can figure out how to make it work, maybe it's not ready yet lol.

Yea I tried to set the apps up on my uConnect like a week ago and it let me register online and everything but then it always says it "can't connect" or some similar error message when I actually try to download apps to my truck. I feel your pain!

hahah. I pressed the "apps" button on my uConnect. But then nothing would happen. So don't worry I don't think I've really figured anything else out lol.

Yea it's a big PITA. It will be awesome once they have it all up and running (if they ever do haha) but for now I'm content just working on some mods and driving the truck. The XM radio and ipod connector are really all I need to be happy.

I'm with you on that. I wouldn't keep the hot spot feature live if I had to pay for it anyway. Between XM and my ipod I have all the music I could ever listen to anyway.

Yea exactly how I feel. I haven't looked up anything about how much the wifi hotspot would cost but I would only ever use it on long road trips so my passengers could use laptops/phones etc. I drive about 600-700 miles a week and never get bored with the XM and ipod combo.

I feel like most of the apps that will eventually become available are only really gonna be practical for people who use their trucks for work. Except Pandora and stuff, that'll be pretty cool to have.

Plus I can stream pandora through my android phone via bluetooth, so the hot spot feature isn't really a big deal to me. I use FoxFi hot spot freeware with my android, so if need be I can connect that while driving so my passengers can get web access.

Ahh very smart. I have the iPhone 4S so I can stream pandora through the Bluetooth feature also, I just find that XM is more than enough if I want music that isn't on my iPod. I'm too cheap to fork out the cash to turn my iPhone into a wifi hotspot though haha

Haven't played with mine yet but I would imagine that the truck would need to be linked to a hotspot (or paying for the service) before the apps could be downloaded to it. On another note, the voice recognition on these sucks in comparison to my ford. I may have to read the owners manual to see if I can train it.

That's a good point. Problem is that I can't even get my uConnect to hook up to wifi. Oh well, I'll survive haha. I personally don't use the voice recognition at all. I programmed all my phonebook stuff and contacts/favorites into the uConnect so I've just been using the touchscreen to make calls and that's been working fine for me so far. I try not to do the whole texting and driving thing even if it is through the voice recognition.

I believe it's 20 bucks a week or get a month price of 50 bucks. IMO, it's too pricey for the little I'd use it. The nice thing is you can turn it on when taking a trip, and then turn it off when you're not. :headbang:

Ahh okay, gotcha. Thanks for the info, and yea I'd say that's way too much for me too. Although if you only get charged for it when it's turned on then it could be a good deal.

That's what we'd do. Turn it on for the trip only. Happy family, happy travels!

Can you hook the system up to your phone or wireless modem aka jetpack? Curious only because if I buy one which is not likely I want to know.

From what a Uconnect rep told me was that the apps on the radio will use your existing data plan on your cell so you won't need that pricey Uconnect subscription which will be nice.

In my last truck I had a sweet aftermarket Pioneer Avic system and it did the same thing, I had an avic app on my cell and it ran in the background to communicate with the radio, I'm guessing that's how this one will eventually work since it says you will need to install the Uconnect app on your phone.

For now I use the Bluetooth streaming but I'm not impressed with the volume level so I'm hoping that the built in apps will be better. I mainly use the XM and love it or music on my phone through the USB jack, but I do like Pandora and IHeart

Does that cost extra money or is it free to turn it on?
