Good Day, all.
I have a 2016 RAM Laramie with the 8.4 UConnect, 3G obsolete, radio and functions.

I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of anyone who does, or has tried to, change out the 8.4 3G modem (?) for a newer 4G or better yet 5G modem?

If this is doable, would it 'fix' the 3G specific issues/services such as loss of texting, calling, internet, travel services, etc., etc., etc., through the radio as the radio did when 3G was still available?

Any help, info, comments, rude remarks :)D) would be welcome. Considering this issue affects MILLION$$$, it would probably be a BOON to someone who can/would do it and advertises.

Thanks
Dave

8.4 UConnect (that lost MOST functions with shut-down of 3G)

Modem drivers are specific to radio firmware on these radios and is not interchangeable. I think UConnect's solution is a 4G T-Mobile OBDII dongle

Have it, doesn't work for connecting to the 3G services that were lost. Pretty useless and FAR from any fix or resolution....
Very unhappy that these vehicle manufacturers have no fix, or even a plan to fix, anywhere in sight.
Planned obsolescence through lack of foresight. Wanna bet that even after the 3g debacle they are still hard wiring a new modem with no plans for any upgrade capability.
Thanks for the response, though.

car manufacturers have no control over any AM/FM/Sirius part of the Infotainment System. Major changes were either made by or OKed by the FCC, the FCC needed more Bandwidth in Frequencies used by 3G, that is where the M2M comes in.
M2M (Machine to Machine) communication / Internet of Things (IoT) concept

The Computer part of the radio, Infotainment system is mated to the vehicles Main brain & the auto manufacturers Engineers control that part

FCC's Reasoning

I don't use those services but are the newer 8.4 radios effected by this shutdown? If not, then you can always install a 2018+ UAS/UAQ 8.4 and gain some new features too.
