Are these needed?

Hey everyone. Not sure what these are called but it seems like they are meant to redirect airflow. My question is are they needed or do they actually help? I ask as I'm looking to get my inserts painted and it would look much cleaner without them but I don't want to mess something up by removing them. TIA.

I removed them when I changed out my grill inserts on my 1500. They re-direct the air to the active grill shutters.

No issues? I have an express model I don’t think they come with active grill shutters.

You can remove them safely, when you get the mesh grilles that completely replace the face you have to cut all that out ... similar to this one

They direct air to hit the air conditioning condenser & radiator
If they are removed dirty water, bugs, mud, snow, etc. will hit the Radiator Support.

That would be a pain to keep clean

Not only have them in place, but i also have a home made bug screen, just in front of the A/C Condenser

They are an engineering design to direct air flow for improved cooling, heating, aerodynamics. There is no reason to remove, you would not benefit from them not being there. Being not very noticeable, it would be a good idea to leave them in place.
