Battery Packs

A Forum member yesterday (05-08-26) posted a thread on a battery issue on jumping the battery. Forum member RamDiver posted a tip to me about using a battery pack if you were giving or receiving a jump start. I understand what he meant about the sensitive electronics and such pertaining to Ram Trucks (they can be fickle). I am researching into this battery pack issue (never know when it may be needed) but really know nothing about them. Are they portable to go in my rear under seat Husky storage, how long do they stay charged, brand, price etc... I'm not looking for the most expensive (fixed income/retired) or the cheapest but one that can do the job when needed. Any advice will be of great help. On a side note I have been a member only a short time but have learned and enjoyed the members and info on the Forum. There is a lot of real-world info here.

I have a NOCO GB40. Rated at 1000 amps. It fits easily under the rear seat. NOCO products are generally well regarded.

However, when I did need it, it didn’t bail me out because some guy ahem had neglected to keep it charged up.

Now it gets charged periodically because some guy put a reminder on their phone.

@jc56berg I also have a NOCO jump starter, and you will find many that are less expensive, so before you buy you might want to watch this test video
by Project Farm. The NOCO he tests his larger and more powerful (and more expensive) than the ones mentioned here which are much cheaper.

I've had a NOCO GB-40 for a couple of years. It holds a charge for months but it seemed to struggle boosting my lawn tractor a couple of times.

After watching the review above I decided to try the Gooloo GP-4000 when I found it on sale at Walmart.

Plus, it seems to be well priced for how well it measured during the review.

I also have a NOCO GB50. It rides around with me under the rear seat of my Ram, and it has never failed me.

Before I leave home, whether I am towing the RV or just going on a road trip, I check the state of charge on it to make sure it is ready when needed on the road.

MAN!!! That guy talks faster than Kurt Russell in the movie "used cars"... and made in China! Thank you for the link. The NOCO looks good and I can get a purchase like that on my Summit Synchrony card at no interest.

PS: heat is the best killer for batteries.
I try not to leave mine in the truck too long when the temperatures get too crazy.

And my high temperatures likely don't come close to yours.

I have a Noco GB70,and it's been used "alot" at the local dragstrip,there's always somebody borrowing it off me as they've killed their battery running cooling fans etc.,and it's never failed to start their toys,and that includes engines upwards of 572 cubes and 12.5:1 compression ratio's.I charge it every few months.Mine is also going on 10 years old and is still working good.

Once you decide on one, read the manual for recharging cycles. The three jump packs I have recommend recharging once a year if not used.

There are two basic types of jump packs: one requires a battery voltage (the required voltage varies by manufacturer), and the other doesn't. If the jump pack has a power-boost button, it can jump-start the vehicle when the battery is dead as a doornail.

Sometimes a battery will go bad, like when it develops an internal short. A condition like this will absorb all the energy a jump pack can deliver, thus no crank.

I’ve had a NOCO GB150 for about 5-6 years now. It fits into one of the floor bins in the back. It has always worked for a low battery, usually after I’ve listened to the radio for a long period of time, the voltage gets too low. Even on my 2018 Limited 2500 Cummins truck, which had 2 batteries, it would not turn over once the voltage got too low.
Only once did the jump pack not work starting a CAT extendable forklift. When you connect the jump pack, it shows the voltage, usually reading in the low 11 volt range. In the case of the CAT battery, it only showed like 10.2 volts. I thought that was odd. Normally it doesn’t take too long to restore the battery enough and it starts, but in this case, it wouldn’t work. I left it on maybe 20 minutes. It turned out that a cell in the battery was bad. Replaced battery, problem resolved.
These jump packs are really convenient and I will always keep one with me. No more trying to get close enough so the jumper cables reach! And untangling them!

I have a Noco in each vehicle. I check them every 6 months or so. You can charge them right from the outlet in your pickup while you are driving, though 110 is faster..
