Thanks everyone.
Let me give the actual situation. Im sure having all the info will help you to help me. Maybe someone can give some advise on where else to go.
I drive a 2012 SCSB R/T. I originally wanted to do some sort of forced induction and be done. Only to find out that tuning was an issue (at the time) and I couldn't go that route. So I then tried everything under the sun to get the most performance out of my truck. Long tube headers into high flow cats. New y pipe, cat back exhaust, lower t stat, Cold air induction, larger ported throttle body, torque converter, I even changed to royal purple oil and put on a catch can. By the time i got done with all of that, tuning was an option. So I got a custom tune as well. So thats where the truck stands right now.
I decided recently that I would go ahead and finish the truck by going the way of F/I.(Its always been a dream of mine to have a truck with forced induction.)
So I had STS work me up a quote on a turbo system. Larger injectors, water/**** injection, and all that good stuff. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm not looking to go racing with this truck. I just like strong acceleration. So I am thinking about staying in the 5psi range. The whole thing including tuning, was in my price range, so I feel great about it.
But.... I love the sound of my truck. And the STS will change that quite a bit. So i wanted to see what possibilities were available with superchargers before I just jumped into the turbo.
So I called Arrington Performance (not for the first time)and when I finally got through and got someone on the line, I quickly and very pointedly explained my wants and budget to them. They were very dismissive and uninterested. Whoever I was speaking to told me they would put together an estimate and get back to me. That was two weeks ago..
I should mention that i went through that exact situation with them about 6 months ago as well. I got busy working and then didn't have the time to mess with it. Till now.
Unfortunately, this is the only shop that I have any knowledge about. I have heard that they are the best for builds and tuning ect. Otherwise i would have not bothered with them after the first time they shunned me. I wonder how in the heck they do any business at all from what i have experienced from them. I mean its not like I'm wanting to waste their time for a small gain. I would consider the budget to be substantial, by anyones measure. But lets get back on track...
So my goal here is to simply speak to someone knowledgable on the subject so that I can weigh the pros and cons and make a decision. STS was very helpful and enthusiastic. Would be great to find someone in the SC world that was of the same mind.
So If anyone has any thoughts on the subject, please feel free to enlighten me or share your opinion. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again!![]()
Luckily you're part of a forum with several members who have done exactely what you want to do and if you just want to go F/I and keep the boost low then you're in luck.
Arrington does amazing work, but they spend a lot more time working the LX side of Chrysler as it's a much larger market and they are extremly busy. They get a lot of tire kickers so I can understand their attitude, I may not condone it, but I can understand it, especially if you're a new customer.
Now, if you want additional options for F/I the 2 easy ones are Procharger and RIPP as both have bolt-on centrifugal superchargers. I hate to say it, but any venture into F/I will change your exhaust tone, so if that's your limiting variable then I would give up looking now and accept the power level you're making. A turbo will defintely be quieter than the supercharger, so at least with a SC you can work alot more with the exhaust tone unlike with the turbo.
What kind of budget are you looking at for this project? For me I found a used P1SC kit for $2500 that I needed to add an intercooler, injectors, MAP, piping, and tuning which worked out to just over $4k with me doing the install. A new kit would've run me $6500 and I could have bolted it in and be done. You can do things on a budget if you take the time and be patient for good deals.
My suggestion would be get your local performance shop with a dyno do the install and have Mike or his son Micah @ OST do the remote tuning. $700-800 with something like 10 revisions. Really good people. HHP will do remote tuning, contact Don, formally of Arrington. and Johan Mangs(diablotoona) will do the same for a donation of $200-700.
If you don't mine me asking how much was the sts package? I take it that it was a rear mount after the y pipe?
I'd build the motor/trans... Then think about F/I
I don't know if you've considered going this route or not but why not toss a cam in it? If you have all the bolt on's tossing a cam in is going to really wake it up.
With all of your bolt on's and a tune your going to push 70-100 rwhp. Not to mention you wallet will be a lot heavier.
If it was me I'd go cam and tune first. You want low end power over where you are now. Well with a cam there are spots on the curve you see 100 hp gains. The power comes on crazy.
Take a look at HHP and see what they have to offer. With most of the bigger aftermarket dealers out there they have installers in most major cities to help take care of you.
In regards to the tune issues you speak of that's more of an issue with the diablo tuner having some ***** issues with the trucks. I think most of the kinks have been worked out.
