I have an 02 1500 with a 6" lift, which isn't bad but its the same height as a stock 3500 so I want to go bigger. Plus I just had a heavy load in the back and it seemed to dearch my leaf springs even with helper bags. I was wondering if the 2500 axles had the same gearing ratio as the 1500?

Got it. I'm going to be doing all the work myself, but was planning on doing the back first, thats why I was wondering if the axle ratios where the same in the 1500 and 2500

Didn't 02 come with Dana 44 up front? If you just want to go bigger Dana 44 is plenty. Dana 60 is 8 lug so u would need adapters for rear axle

But it is a lot cooler to have a 1500 Solid axel. Just my opinion. One day I would love to do that, if you do it keep us updated. There are a few guys that have done it, and a couple on here. Hopefully they chime in.

The reason I'm wanting to do this is not only for a bigger lift but to be able to have more weight in the bed. Yesterday I hauled a lot of weight in the back, so I aired up my helper springs put it back up, then this morning I noticed that the back of my truck was lower then the front and usually its the other way around.

pretty sure its not just the axle that gets the 2500 and up the capacity. Believe it also has to do witht the frame and also the leaf springs. Its also not safe to carry more than what the truck is rated for. you would be better off getting rid of your truck and upgrading to a 2500 or bigger.

I don't haul a lot of weight on a regular basis, and really i didn't think it dropped the back of the truck down that much, plus thats whats helper springs are for. Well I'm still going to look into the axle swap reguardless, probably hit a few junk yards for the axles and springs. Maybe even something like a Klederman air ride setup. But it'll have to be in the spring right now my garage isn't tall enough to pull my truck in.
