my 98 ram 5.2 is just a dog when it comes to power. not a fun truck. yet i have been obsessing over it for the last two years..... once in a while while i'm starting out from a stop light, it will fall on its face and back fire a few times and take right off again. it's not very often but i think its an issue.... thing's i've tried. new motor 35k ago (just before i bought, factory installed). new 02 sensors, new cap, rotor, wires, plugs, coil, battery, vaccuum leaks all sealed, intake and plenum gaskets, throttle positioning sensor, new flowmaster muffler, and new cat.... it's driving me crazy. why would i have such a lack of power? i use to be able to do burnouts, now i can't get the tires to squeek unless the ground is wet. hate! please help. thanks guys.

Check your fuel pressure/pump. And fuel and air filters.

I am not too familiar with the 2nd Gen trucks.

Have you tried a fuel system cleaner? Or tried to Seafoam it?

I would start with a seafoam treatment. Then from there I would double check the plenum. If a good quality gasket wasn't used then there is a possibility it is blown a second time. Never hurts to look.
