I have been looking into getting a back up camera for my SLT, but I had a thought. If I went to the pick and pull to find a '16 with the tailgate back-up cam, how easy would it be to replace that with my tialgate and have the cam hooked to the screen? Would it even work?

when i installed my pioneer nex, i tinkered with the idea of a factory tailgate setup.. after looking at time and cost.. i opted for the simple license plate one.. $20 bucks and i had it installed in ten minutes

You could use he tailgate but all you need is the tailgate handle w/camera. Then you need the wiring harness from the tailgate to the cab and then you have to go to dealer to get the computer flashed ! ( not sure about after market ) I have a 2015 SLT and had dealer install the camera kit. I figured since I would have to got to the dealer anyway killed 2 birds with 1 stone :),,Plus they warranty it Cost was around $525.00 installed.. BUT some dealers charge as high as 1200 $ from what I have read . The OEM Camera/harness kit is around 300$ . Several here went aftermarket.. As mentioned several threads here onsite about adding it, I saw it as too much a pain in the ass for me to do lol Also go t You Tube there are videos showing how to do it

hooking up to the factory is nothing like using an aftermarket cam and aftermarket radio.

Installing OEM backup cam
** Pay attention to Post 10 as well as the OP **

Unless you get a smoking deal on the used parts out of a wrecked trucks tailgate, it usually makes better sense to get the Mopar camera kit so you have all the parts you need. ( about $280 for the kit & $120 for the flash at the dealer)

This ^^^^^^^ [emoji1303][emoji1303][emoji1303]

Less than $300 from the dealer for the kit and install yourself .
Pretty simple a 3.5 difficulty out of 10 for a dryer imo .
A couple electrical connectors to depin and populate , one or two solders ( depends on your BCM configuration ) and a bunch of tie wrapps for the long harness , rewarding to do it yourself imo .
