short story, bought a truck out of state, and had the dealer do the work installing a service body on a 2500 series dodge.

they forgot to install the back up camera.

they sent me the camera, but no wiring, and are now suppose to be sending the wiring.

the backup camera displays in the rearview mirror.

anyone know what the connectors/wiring for the camera look like?

the dealer is leaving it up to me.....

yeah, there is one local, but I bought the truck out of state.

they didnt mention anything about a flash, wow, I was hoping I could just plug it up and it would work.

I see a bunch of mods of people converting ra1 cameras to ra2-ra3 back up cameras.

I really just need to know what the wire loom looks like connecting all of it for the ra1 system, the camera thats mounted in the rear view mirror.

Yes for the OEM camera it has to be flashed so the radio pics it up to display! There are alot of threads here on installing the Camera and TONs on You Tube! To me it was too much a pain for me to install. Where you purchased the truck should not be a issue at another dealership! They want your $$$$ too lol The the search box for Back Up Camerea info.. Ill see what I can dig up

I'm confused. Was the dealer supposed to add the Mopar kit and install it, or was the truck factory equipped with a camera and they removed it when they put the service body on?

Mine did not come with the camera or harness I had to add it to my 2015 . I picked my up used and it was a rental so the camera was not installed. So I assume some came with out the camera.. you did not get ripped off :O
my dealer only charged me 525$ for the Camera,Harness, Flashing and installation, so IMO a good deal for me....I am surprised the gear heads have not offered advice yet

Yes. Some have cameras and some don't. I was asking the OP was his situation was because it will make a big difference on the installation. If his truck already had a camera he'll only need to add the camera and whatever wiring was removed. If not, he'll need the wiring, mirror, sales code, etc.

the list of options listed a camera, so I'm assuming it was already there.

the rear view mirror there is a screen with a X on the screen when putting the truck in reverse.

they flubbed up and didnt install the back up camera on the service body, it was in the tailgate on the other pick up bed I assume.

I've seen numerous posts, about depinning a harness and hooking up the backup camera into wiring on the truck.

at first the dealer said they left a adapter and wiring in the truck under the rear passenger seat.

the only thing in the truck I could find was in the glove box, and it was two connectors..... I guess those are adapters of some kind,

I didint take it apart, and am at a loss, as to where to start looking for the harness its suppose to plug in to. like the color of the connectors, if you have to depin anything. etc.

I called them yesterday and they are suppose to be sending me some type of wiring kit, which they finally admitted to losing, after calling them numerous times.

any help on where it would plug in to assuming its a factory set up .

so far I have a rear view mirror with a view screen on it when putting it in reverse, but no images backing up,

and I have the back up camera, but no wiring, and no clue where it plugs in to, missing some pieces I assume,

I didnt take it apart, and need some help trying to piece it back together to work.

Never mind. I just saw that you said it had a regular box on it (I had asked if it was a chassis cab). There would have been a connector behind the bumper that went to the tailgate. Hopefully they just tucked it back under the chassis. If that's the case, you'll just need the last part of the harness.

Did you ever get this figured out ?

This should be a very simple fix , if it's just a harness missing inside or at the tailgate .

last talked to the dealer Wednesday. they said "the guys across the street removed the stock bed". I said "will you call them and see if they still have the harness". they called me back later and said "they dont' have it they must have lost it, we will send you one".

thats after I talked to a shop that only does back up cameras, and the guy on the phone was really honest, and said they had been in a similar situation, and forgot to remove some type of sensor, and back up camera wiring from the tailgate of the pickup bed, they had converted to a utility bed.

if it had not been for that guy being honest, the dealer I got it from, I really doubt, would have admitted to flubbing up, and probably would have never admitted they forgot to remove the wiring from the pickup bed. the dealer said they didnt remove the bed, but the "guys across the street" forgot too.

I'm hoping thats all it is,

I will for sure update this when I get the wiring, hopefully with no problems.

another question,

its a READING brand truck body,

there are already two holes stamped out in the bumper,

I know one is suppose to be where you put the tire removal tool through to remove the spare tire, which doesnt line up, upset about that, might have to drill the hole bigger,

I had to remove the spare tire with a ratchet and 14mm socket for the time being.

BUT

how would you go about installing the backup camera. where would you drill your holes at? I know the stock one sit in the tailgate handle,

do they make a kit thats sort of bolt on ? instead of drilling a hole.

the camera is kind of square, with two screws. really hope I dont have to get a holesaw and jigsaw.

Honestly, if it were me, I'd buy an aftermarket camera that uses a more generic mount. The stock one, like you said, sits in a hole and uses the screws on the side to hold it in place. It is also designed to sit up high and angle downward.

I always recommend factory cameras, but I think you might be better off going aftermarket. There is nothing special about the factory camera other than the active grid lines, which likely won't be aligned for you anyway. So, you can splice an aftermarket into your factory wiring.

The camera mounts in the tailgate handle and is installed as an assy .
I recommend the OEM setup unlike 00R/T .
Furthermore the dealer should be giving you everything you need , which should be :
1) handle for the gate (with a camera hole already ) + the camera .

2) 2ea harnesses that go inside the tailgate , one hooks to the long harness going fwd on the drivers side that has 8 wires , the other harness hooks directly to the camera and the other harness above .

This will take 30 mins or less to install .

Do you have a bed with a tailgate anymore , a flatbed or something?

If you do not have a tailgate then maybe an aftermarket camera as 00R/T mentioned .

Please Post a picture of what you have Sir .

I'm going to relist some useful links for you from the OEM backup camera thread. If you locate the i550 Tailgate connector back at the end of the truck (and it's intact), and you get the parts that are supposed to be inside the tailgate, you should be able to plug in the needed harnesses to the OEM camera provided you can figure out a way to mount it. Downside is that you may also want to seal up the harness connectors/wires that are normally inside the tailgate against water intrusion (ie w/silicone).

Have a read through the oem mirror kit directions to see how it was installed previously. Not sure if you had dealer installed backup cam/mirror kit or a factory installed backup cam/mirror (different connections where the harness passes through the firewall near the brake pedal).

A. Camera Body Harness P/N 68209529AB (Mpg2 Note: should already be installed)
B. Mirror Harness P/N : ?? (Mpg2 Note: should already be installed)
C. Handle with Camera Provisions P/N 68197873AA (Mpg2 Note: don't need)

D. Camera Lock Jumper Harness P/N P68096415AC
E. Tailgate Wire Harness P/N P68189124AB

Here are the current Ram/Chrysler OEM kit directions (and P/N's) for adding the factory Parkview Camera to 2013-2015 Ram Trucks depending on your Trim Level/radio i.e. Express/RA1 vs rest/RA2,RA3,RA4.

NOTE: The Schematic for the factory Mirror camera is slightly different, but that shouldn't affect the tailgate end. I will see if I can find/post a link for you and some pictures to this post shortly...

Edit: See post 25 link above for pictures of the i550 tailgate connector. Chances are that the adapter/connector the dealer was talking about (in glovebox) is just a "Sealing plug" for the i550 for when people remove the tailgate.

EDIT 2:
It's possible to get some male terminals and pin an aftermarket camera to plug in at the i550 camera for video and power with that "plug". If the aftermarket camera requires a separate, dedicated "reverse trigger" signal, that wire can be run over to the trailer connector (do not use the one in the tail lights).

Delphi 1.5mm Sealing plugs: 54241629 (new pn: 13755243)

PM me your email and I can send you a schematic for the 2017 "Factory" Backup Camera (too large to link directly)

I will post a pic asap, when I get back to the shop Monday.

its what they call a service body, which is a truck bed, that is a tool box pretty much.

It would be cool if a tailgate off the same model year dodge 2500 truck, would mount in place of the "reading" model service bodies tailgate.

or I could mount the tailgate handle off a stock 2017 dodge in place of the tailgate handle of the service bodies.

without taking a photo this is a link on what the truck body looks like.

I dont know a whole lot about back up cameras,

good or bad brands,

any good recommendations/examples of a 3rd brake light cam?

I was really wanting the backup cam, to help in lining up/hooking up a trailer hitch with. too

license plate

$20 license plate frame cam w be great for hitch spotting.

the only thing about that, is that the license plate is on the left side of the truck bed.

the license plate frame isn't mounted in the middle like a typical truck bed is.
