Be easy enough to run a cheap 12 volt gauge temporily. Run the positive and negative wires out the back side of the hood and through the doorjamb and just place the gauge on the dash where you can watch it for a day or 2 while driving around,that'd be your best way of finding out what you're alternator's range is.Right now all you're doing is speculating,while it'd be easy enough to actually find out the alternators range.

I have 4 of these cheap little guys on my slotcar track,and they're all basically dead nuts accurate to my high dollar regulated hospital grade power supplies .

Installing a digital voltage monitor has been on my list for ages, someday I'll get to it.
