You want better mpg reduce weight. Different rims that would be lighter, air intake, exhaust, cover on the back of the truck will reduce wind drag, and keep your foot out of it, I drive in 4 cyc mode in new jersey and I average 18-20 mpg and on the interstate I average 24.7 mpg I also have a regular cab, but the others don't weigh that much more so good gas mileage is attainable .

Best mpg mod is to attach a harness to the front bumper so a horse can tow you.

Funny you say cover the back?
The fourth generation trucks are as aerodynamic as a Honda accord. They both have a 3.44% drag rating. Which is pretty good for a full size truck.
Guess you bought the wrong vehicle if your concerned about fuel consumption

I have drove with the cover on the back and off and there's more wind drag with it off. I got my vehicle specifically for the 6500$ rebate and the power it had with the mpg it claimed to get. I just made it actually get that mpg.

I would say drive your cummins, but I notice you have the auto :(

I used to get 24-25 average (05 CTD 3500 QC DRW 6-spd) with just an exhaust, and drop in K&N. I will readily admit I milked that *****, but 25 was hand calculated in town mileage, although Helena MT town let's you drive pretty responsibly.

I maybe saw a .3 increase with bakflip g2 Cover. I have CAI, flowmaster, tuner and its a 4 x 4 on 275 60/20 Rugged Terrains. I might get 18.1 if Im lucky on the highway. I have seen 19 before most recently actually if Im at 60-65 flat highway, that is with the cover and tuner set to mpg booster . But 19 is not an average. 18 is about my highway average.

I talked to a guy that had a new jeep with 295 60 20's on it. He said he installed a Throttle Body Spacer and gained 1-2 mpgs. Ive always heard they dont work, but he swore by it.

i dont DD the cummins, and i didnt buy the 13 for economy, but getting the best i can with what i have isnt really that much to ask? but its ratings are good and i would like to try to maximize my ability to get them. a bed cover is on my check list, i was just not so sure if the muffler/intake would help is why i made this thread. is the vararam intake the best bang for the buck on the intake? i understand it is the best for performance gains anyway. i'm not against performance by any means i just dont want to waste money on junk products

I have the VR, 85mm ported TB, and 14" Mufflex and been testing them out for about a week now and have been able to get my MPG's from an average 12.9 to about 13.6 and that number is still climbing since I am not running her as hard as I was for the first few days. I rarely do highway and have a lot of stoplights from house to the naval base where I work so the numbers were expected to be low since I do a lot of waiting in traffic.

I am pleased with the results and think that the bang was definitely worth the buck!

I'm glad to see all the talk on this thread about how helpful the Y pipe can be, definitely gonna be getting one now. Just have to try to find a place that will weld it on for a reasonable price.

I measured mine this week-end,and it looks like the 2013 4.7's only use a 2.25" dual inlet but still the same 3" outlet as the Hemi.

But you guys are right,it's a mangled mess for a factory Y pipe.

Have a few more mpg is good

I get stock mpgwith k&n intake tuner on race. Tune 34 inch tires lift and backtrack toolbox and 400lbs of tools so... I'd say it works

I'm thinking of going with headers to fix the broken bolt problem. Figure I might do the Y-pipe at the same time. Wondering if I should do the long tube or shorties?

Shorties will give u a small increase in power. Long tubes will give you more power over shorties and if you ever go for bigger power mods the long tubes will help out. the only downside to LT's is the cost and install is more difficult than shorties

Still logging but on my truck I just installed a K&N intake and did V6 E-fan conversion still running stock tune and going to get a tuner shortly

MPG are ridiculously high right now. Didn't go under 22 MPG on the interstate with cruise set to 70mph. Truck seems to be doing way better. Tires are also inflated to the max load psi on the sidewall which helps.

Will be logging this tank to see what I get. Have been messing around a bit though, that intake sounds too good.
