I have a 2013 ram 1500 hemi 5.7 6 speed. I used to have a true dual exhaust with JBA longtubes 7/8 with no cats, xpipe, magna flow bullets but I got state reffed and had to take them off and put my stock headers back on (I live in California) with my stock cats. I ended up selling the longtubes and now im planning on getting some shorty headers w highflow cats to not deal w not being able to pass smog because of the longtubes not having any cats. Is that a good idea? and if so what brand of shorty headers would be the best and what brand of highflow cats would be the best or should I keep my stock cats? Open for any advice I would appreciate it. I do daily the truck but I also race it/ track it so im looking to gain more performance out of them I know the longtubes give out more power but the don't have cats and I need the cats but I am willing to get longtubes again. Thank you!

California's emission laws are so screwed up that I really hesitate to give any advise. I have ARH's long tubes and I ordered cats with them. Whether they would pass your emission test, I have no idea. I also have no idea of what shorties might or might not pass your inspection. I'm afraid if I lived out there I'd just leave my truck stock instead of investing money in mod's, only to learn that I have to take them back off and sell them cause they won't pass inspection. I know that doesn't help a lot but man that's all I got----

You can NOT pass CA smog with aftermarket catalytic converters that does not have a CA EO# this includes ALL high flow cats.

MA is the same way, no longtubes. I'm friends with an inspector and he can't pass longtubes even if he wanted to because the state put cameras in all inspection stations.

Anyways to answer the OPs question, I went with JBA silver ceramic shorties and couldn't be happier with them. They are CARB certified so you're good for emissions testing. I had to give the the CARB EO number when I got my inspection in May and he had to input it into the system for it pass.

The real gear-heads swap components every time emissions are due!

Edit-or move...

Yeah that or they know a guy who knows a guy and a few hundred dollars later and bada bing bada boom, it passed!
Not that I would circumvent the law in such a dastardly manner....

That sucks! Do you have any family in another state? Maybe try to register your car there and not have to worry about dumb California rules.
