Hi guys!

So I fixed my transmission issues, I replaced for a second hand tranny, and while I was there I changed the headers to a longtube headers, now I’m seating a the exhaust with stock cats and no muffler, and I wanted to do somenthing special with it, I was thinking on making a new downpipe connecting to an H or X pipe and going out before the rear axle to a widow maker resonator, I know it will be crazy loud, I was thinking on a valved muffler after the x or H pipe to be able to quiet it a bit, any advice here?

Just wondering if the MDS sound difference will be magnified by the increased noise. If your only purpose is to add sound, maybe try electronically controlled cut outs to allow you to run noisy when it seems like fun but then can run with a quieter set up when in your neighborhood or sitting in traffic.

You can make one similar to the TRX design. Basically still need the drivers side pipe brought over to the passenger side but instead of a y connector use an X pipe and then run dual pipes along passenger side.

So I wonder if I can cut the original y pipe remove the cats and weld it back or is better make a whole mid pipe

You still have the squashed pipe where the 2 join together if you modify the factory Y. It's a good starting point though.

Adding a Borla Atak muffler made our the MDS much more noticeable on our 2020 Limited. I installed a Borla cat-back exhaust on our 2024 Grand Cherokee (5.7 Hemi), and it made less of a difference in how noticeable the MDS is on that vehicle. I think if you have a well designed exhaust system it will make less of a difference as far as hearing MDS kick in and out.

I was thinking about running an H-pipe or X-pipe setup with dual exhaust exiting before the rear axle on both sides. My ideal setup would be dual side exits, one on each side, before the axle, but I’m not sure if it’s possible because of the driveshaft clearance and routing.

Has anyone done something similar on a truck? Wondering how difficult it is to route everything around the driveshaft, fuel tank, and crossmembers without issues.

If you want to dump in front of the rear tires,go under the frame and run your exhaust on the outside of the frame rails

So instead of bringing them to the side as oem rout them under the frame and pop out before the tires? And where will you place the h or x pipe

Before you go under the frame
A big single system in the range of 3.5" will outflow a pair of dual 2.5",and creates better cylinder scavenging,so don't be hung up on duals.
You could use 3.5" or 4" oval tubing to go under the frame and create your exhaust system back to the tires.

Mmm, that sounds good too, so I will do the y pipe from 2.5” or 3” I don’t remember exactly and go up to 4” all the way straight before the tire and just put it out there?
Thanks again I am asking so many questions as I am trying to build it my self and I would like to have as much information as possible thanks again!!

Is this off the stock manifolds or long tube headers? If you're using stock manifolds, they're the biggest restriction, and what you do behind them isn't going to gain you much power.

It’s coming out of long tubes headers. I am aiming for nice deep sound I want the cam to sound good

You might want to also look into doing an 8 speed swap,as that poor little RFE transmission won't handle any horsepower or hard driving.
The 8 speed swap will give you more gains at the track, then your cam swap did,and it'll handle a pile of abuse.

I read about it but I will need a bunch of parts and aftermarket stuff to make it work in my truck am I right?

Why not just get a system like this one to add to your existing headers and add a Magnaflow muffler and tail pipe. https://www.americantrucks.com/sw-178in-headers-catted-ypipe-factconn-quadcrew-57l-0917ram.html

But $2500,? Holy smokes. Guess one gets what one pays for.

I know the advantages of a massive single pipe, but if it were me, that system would have an "H or X pipe" and true dual Hemi style mufflers. With a decent compression, cam'd engine, the sound would be amazing.

Going that far, why not go all the way?
