Hi guys, I'm mid install on a 2018 ram 1500 4x4 sport and I would like to use the 2.1" setting on my Bilstein 5100 struts.. Do i need to compress the spring more than stock to fit it on the strut? currently its about 1-1.5" below the hole on the upper strut mount.. thanks

you do have to compress it quite a bit. And you still have to torque that nut on there too so keep cranking it down.

Re-read through the instructions on where the washer goes when you put the strut back together. There are tons of threads here about how some guys have put them back together wrong. It is not hard to make that mistake.

Your gonna need a good compressor, an impact of some sort, and nerves of steel if you do it yourself.

You can do a little measuring on the stock strut and bilstein after you remove it from the truck to get a rough idea how short the spring will need be. I hope each time I compress the spring it will be far enough as I try to get done with the compressing part while it is still locked on the strut. My compressor was nothing to write home about maybe 20 bucks on ebay. I have probably used it on my 07 and this 14 combined better than 16 times on the struts and and at least a dozen playing with rear spacers. Being it was cheap and worked I bought a second set incase of a failure and I am still alive I can get the truck back up and running. Just be careful and watch closely when playing with compressed springs .
