i have a 2014 ram 1500, had bilstein 5100's installed about 6 years ago in the front, i havent been that easy on them. lately i noticed that the drivers side is sticking up from the strut tower about 2", the passenger side is fine, cant see the nut at all as it is recessed. anyone know whats going on here? strut mount? bushings? garbage shock? help!! picture of both sides below...

Heh, looks like the washer's missing. You're going to need new upper strut mounts and from the looks of it a new set of Bilsteins. This time with the washer installed, ideally :)

Plus side you'll love how it rides after that.

Time for an upgrade. The newer Bilstein 5100’s don’t have the “washer” anymore. They quickly found out that 3/4 of people don’t read directions. OP there is nothing wrong the upper strut mount failed as they all do. It’s been making noise for a little while from the looks of it

If you just replace the strut mount and re-use that strut, the new strut mount will only last a few days or maybe weeks if you are lucky. Unfortunately, I am speaking from experience. Ha.

Yes, there is one on each front strut. In nearly all instances it is a good idea to replace both left and right at the same time because if one is worn out there's a pretty good chance the other one is just as badly worn out and may simply not have catastrophically disassembled itself yet. It's less work overall to replace them both at the same time vs. replacing one, then replacing the other one a month later - and in the case of suspension components an alignment may be needed after each replacement so that's one alignment rather than two.

I'd bet that the washer rotted off, judging by the look of it. I recently did 4600's on my '18 and was shocked at how rusty the top of the stock shocks were.

I heavily coated the top of the assembly with FluidFilm and covered the hole in the mount on the frame to keep road **** out somewhat.

Based on what I can tell, this is for a single spring/shock, so you need 2 of these???
That is correct one for each side

@Nick@GotExhaust will make sure you’re set up with the right components. That takes all the guess work out and replaces it with peace of mind knowing you have the proper parts

Yeah, I’m fixing to swap the OEM springs on my 5100s (@2.8) for the Eibach Pro Springs (that I got from Nick already) and set the 5100s at the 3rd/center notch and figured I’d replace the top hats as well. Thanks brother.
