So my Orange Ram had this little black box by the rear view mirror and I assumed it was for the rain sensitive wipers....however, my new ram has this same box, but no rain sensitive wipers. So my questions is...what is this box? I called my local dealer and they weren't sure....LOL

That is the black bump on the front center of the dash.

I thought that was the little nipple thing on the dash by the front center speaker?

Could it be for the auto-dim high beams then? I'm not sure what else it could be used for. I have the convenience package (auto-dim highs, rain-sensing wipers, etc.) and that's what I presume that sensor was for. Could it be an antenna (GPS, sat radio?)?

All mirrors above the basic tradesman/express level have an upper and lower covering over the wiring behind the mirror. I went from the base no frills mirror to Auto-Dimming, Microphone, 911-Assist, Hi-Beam sensing mirror and went through 3 different sizes of mirror covers before I got the right one.

You guys are all waaaay off. It's a homing beacon for aliens from across the universe to track your location. The US government shifted this tracking system off-planet to absolve themselves of liability....

...errrr, I thought it was for GPS. Time to put my tinfoil hat back on

The Auto-lights, from off to normal low beams is on the dash by the front speaker. The Oncoming Traffic sensing auto High Beam to Low Beam sensor is on the back of the mirror for 13+ and on the back of the black box for 09-12... (guessing based on purchase of wrong black box that had a hole for the sensor vs the mirror that came from a '15 and had the sensor on the driver's side of the mirror away from the box).

The optical sensor for auto dimming headlights or smart beam and rain sensing wipers is part of the mirror and located inside the black covers that go around the mirror. the box next to the mirror you are speaking of is the humidity sensor which ties into the hvac. The little nipple thing on the dash is the sun sensor which also ties into the hvac.

i took all that crap off the back of the mirror. it did nothing but cover the wiring harness, which i put a bit of loom over. you can barely see it, even if you're looking for it, through the gradient in the windshield. f that thing.

CptWing is correct.

If you're referring to a little black box just to the right of the rear view mirror. That is the humidity sensor for your HVAC system.
