I've had a black screen issue as a result of the Apple Carplay several times, perhaps once every three weeks. I discovered a quick workaround to use on the fly. If the screen goes black:
1). put the iPhone into "airplane mode"
2). turn infotainment system back on using only the power button. It comes right back on without any delay.
This has worked for me twice now, no issues. I also take my phone out of airplane mode right away and haven't had an issue.
