Blown shock 55,000 miles?

I noticed a few oil spots on the driveway so I decided to investigate...

Has anyonee else had to replace their shocks with similar mileage? Is this covered under warranty?

Damn that sucks. If you have an extended warranty they might cover it. If not, time for some Ranchos or Bilsteins:naughty:

I changed the factory shocks on a truck once that had 6 shocks, three of them would stick shut when we pushed them down after taking them off, that was 70k miles. You will like the ride you get with bils anyway, especially if you go for 5100's.

I don't need the adjustability of the 5100s. Are the 4600s just as good?

No I have ran both, the yellow HD are too rough of a ride for me, 5100's are perfect. They are very popular though, maybe you will like them., Do some research.

One of mine went just outside of warranty on my 2011. Cost like $200 for a new one

I think the 4600s are the same as the 5100s, just not height adjustable.

EDIT: Nevermind listen to Burla!

From everything I read the 5100s and the 4600s are exactly the same aside from the adjustability, finish and shock boot.

Bilstein can be set to stock height...but keep in mind...if you wanna go with bigger tires, they are adjustable (you would have to take them out to do it).

Ride is stiffer, but not much stiffer. It feels more like a truck. Prior to my install, my truck felt like it was floating...like a mini van.

I've had both, yellow HD's are almost like having no shock, super stiff. 5100's are firm but smooth, like Arod said. Many guys run the 4600's and complain they are too stiff, I've never heard any complaints on the 5100's ride quality. They were two different trucks, but I'd be surprised if they are the same shock.

Here.

I did have two front shocks on the other truck, maybe that was the difference.

You're saying your stock ride was better than with bilsteins? That's odd.

I wish my truck would blow a shock or 4 so I would have a reason to replace them with Bilsteins. With my luck if I waited for that to happen I'll be replacing them at 250k and I only have 11k right now. I guess there is worse luck to have.

Nahh...just doing a comparison. I changed my oem shocks to bilstein shocks at 14k miles....I'm up to 26k miles and I love my handling around corners.

I pulled the trigger on the 5100s. The difference was a total of about $5 from the 4600s LOL! I got them off THMotorsports. Can't wait to get them installed!

Nice! Bilstein makes a great shock and the option to level is always there.

I would've gone with the Bilsteins but I just didn't want to mess around with spring compressors. Had a close call years ago...

Don't forget pics after they're installed!
