I’m new to owning a Ram 1500 Sport and definitely new to diagnosing LED taillights. My dash says that my passenger rear brake light is out and I can clearly see that it works since I back up to a glass wall off and on. I’ve taken the connectors spark and checked for corrosion or bent/missing pins and everything looks good. The light works whether it’s just the tail light or the brake light. They both work as they’re supposed to. Is there a resistor or something in the circuit for the stock LED bulbs to make the computer see them? There aren’t any nicks in the tape around the housing and the message doesn’t pop up until I’m in gear. I’m lost without a wiring diagram right now. Anybody have any ideas?? TIA

Your 3rd brake light is out. It shares the circuit with your left/right taillights.

Very cheap/quick bulb to replace

Interesting as I just replaced it with a LED bulb that is the same bulb that’s in the cargo lights and last I checked it worked too. I’ll have to double check that. Thank you.

Yea I’d double check your 3rd brake light again. It’s very common for them to go out and the seals are notorious for leaking water through the housing.

Nope. That’s not it. I just took this picture and the 3rd brake light is on. 4621780bb244513f72dda35b9501d9e7.jpg

Is it a generic led bulb or one that is canbus compatible. Had that issue with license plate lights a generic led threw a code, found some canbus bulbs and problem solved.

This.

The lower draw of the LED makes the CANbus system think the light is out. You either have to change it with AlphaOBD or use CANBUS bulbs, but even they don’t always work, you have find the “right one” for your truck.

[emoji2962][emoji869] That actually worked!! I had put in what I was told was a good quality, chipped LED from Luyed that worked really well in my cargo lights but I guess it didn’t in the brake lights. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! Much appreciation for your help!

You’ll disregard the startup message after a few months. It’s worth the cost savings IMO.
