Brake Line Help

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500, 5.7L 4x4. CCSB. without getting too much in to it, i can't junk this truck. 1. it holds a high level of value to me and 2. i love the body style.

While back the front to rear line blew at the fitting/bracket just before it splits for the rear axle. Mopar says it's obsolete and every dealer showing inventory says they can't find it in house. I have googled and got so many conflicting specs on line size and fittings. Is there someone here that can help me with some info, so i can get "dads truck" moving again? i just need to know what the fitting size is off the abs block to that rear bracket and line size really. I know how to do brakes but i don't want to be buying 8 different sizes of stuff and still not make headway. Thank You in advance and i apologize if this question has come up before, i did a short search but didn't see much that could help me prior to posting this.

Order assorted box of brake line fittins for $20 on amazon just did this with a jeep helped alot. Cut a piece of brake line run to any autozone ect and match the brake line size and buy a role of it its good to have around. Any harbor freigt also sells the flare tool and cutter if you dont have it very easy job to do many yt vids you can look up.

Cut a piece of brake line run to any autozone ect and match the brake line size and buy a role of it its good to have around. minus the coating on the brake line, i'm quite sure i have the brake line in the shop but the fittings is throwing me for a loop. i'm finding different size on each end of the line, style wise. i have metric and standard on this truck and it's driving me crazy. i'll see if i can find another box of assorted fittings, i've done this already with no luck.

Go to your local self serve you pull junkyard with some tube nut wrenches. When you bring an assortment home, measure pitch and sizes. Then buy what you need or if what you pulled isn't rusted too bad , use those. The tube nuts can be reused because it's the lines that go.

In this situation, I use one of these gauges (pic below). I have both the 'Standard' and 'Metric'. This is a very handy little set of gauges. If you have a mechanic friend, I'm pretty sure they would have these and let you borrow them. Otherwise, as already stated, take the old stuff to parts store and match it up.

Additionally, be sure to use Copper-Nickel brake line, it bends and flares easier, and lasts life of vehicle. And don't forget, brake lines utilize a double flare.... a cheap H/F tool might not be able to do a proper double flare. If you're using a standard steel brake line, then a cheap H/F flaring tool will likely NOT be able to do a proper double flare.

Haha, yes, I agree. I suffered with a cheap H/F flaring tool for a long time, it might work if you were lucky. Then I finally broke down and bought the kit below.... and WOWZA ....... now I can make all kinds of perfect flares on all kinds of materials, even with the line still on the vehicle. I've never once regretted spending the money on quality tools.

If you have older vehicles, that Mastercool tool is the best money you will ever spend. Absolutely perfect flares, bubbles, whatever.
