I’m one of the unlucky that have the very annoying brake squeal. After the third time having it back at the dealer, and them working with Ram engineers, Ram is sending them new rotors and brake pads. Hopefully I get them put on today, and I’m squeal free. My question is should I bed the pads immediately after getting the truck back, or wait to see if they’ll squeal? In all the new cars my wife and I have owned (10+), we’ve never had to do the bedding process, and never had any noise issues. Is there any harm in doing the process if they’re not squealing? If they’re not squealing what’s the harm in not doing the bedding process?

I see alot of ppl bed their brakes. And I don't argue whether it's needed or not because I'm no mechanic and there is enough proof that it works. I'm sure the process works and there are ppl more familiar with it than me.

Having said that, there are a 'gazillion' people who have never heard of bedding brakes and their brakes don't squeal. Before forums, I bet only mechanics knew of the process. My 19 Longhorn doesn't squeal and I didn't and wont' be doing the bed process. I have never done it on any vehicle I've ever had. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I did have issues with a BMW once, that had a lot to do with the metallic brake pads and they did all sorts of things including bedding them and it never stopped.

So.........just like you, I've never done the process either.

I have had every Dodge vehicle I have owned suffer from squealing brakes. They come and go. It’s annoying (and this truck seems to have it worst at the rear left). I don’t know if it’s worth going to the dealership as I have tried that and have had squealing with many, many sets of replacements.

Verdict in: Got the truck back today with all new rotors and brake pads...Exactly the same sound. There was no sound at first, but about 10 minutes into the drive the sound came back when lightly pressing the brake to go from about 75 to 55. From that point on it made a high pitch sound nearly every time I first pressed the brake. Once I pressed the brake further or pressed it harder to begin with there was little to no sound. Does anyone have any idea what could cause the sound if it’s not related to the rotors or pads?
