Hi,
I just purchased a brand new 2012 Ram 1500 and am trying to lift it. Im new to the truck world so I need some help and ideas as to how high and which kits to look at. Im thinking a 4" kit would be the best, so lets start there.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

I would recommend 6, because once you get a 4 I've heard you regret not getting the 6 :D RCX is popular too!

4x4Hemi here is right on. 6" kit is your best bet. Nothing wrong with a 4", but most people regret not going taller after they've already installed it. I have a 6" with 35's and love it. RCX- Rough Country, is definitely your best bet for the price. With a lifetime warranty!

In the same situation OP...I'm looking mainly at the 4" kits because I want to still fit in the garage :)...good luck whichever route you take.

Depends. Do you want to off road your truck? If so, suspension lift is the way to go, but more expensive. If not, a leveling kit and a 3" body lift is perfect. Glocknram just did this to his 2012. Plus it is far cheaper in most cases.

How true is this really though...? I mean the suspension lifts end up shifting your front suspension cross members down anyway right? So really the most clearance gain you get is with bigger tires/higher a-arm angles, and if you can do that with a 2.5in level, then add a BL to clear 37s you would get equivalent clearance under the lowest parts of your rig as someone who has done a suspension lift with 37s.

I have a 6" Rough Country lift with Cooper STT's 35" and Fuel Hostages that are 17" with a -12 offset. I really like it!

My 2 cents....

I was HEAVILY leaning towards getting a 4" kit.
Im glad I did not.

Now there are things to factor in when going 4" or 6".
Do you want to park it in your garage? Do you go places where 4" lift is all you can handle?

For me? I was on the fence. My truck never fit in my garage due to the length, so it was always outside. My work has parking under ground and out doors. I do miss the under ground parking, but I wont be here for life and parking outside is fine.
After talking to a handful of members, I opted for a 6" kit and thought, that would be the max I would do.
I was wrong because now I have a 10+ lift :birgits_tiredcoffee

You just have to know what you want and go with it.
Nothing wrong with 4" or 6" but 6" will give you a larger base to work with.

Im sure Jake (Jake09) will chime in here....he has a pretty big truck and practically converted his 4" lift into a 6" lift.

But again....my 2 cents. Go the 6" route and you wont regret it :********:

Everyone here hit the nail on the head. Its all up to you and your practicality. Like i.e parking in a garage. My set up on my 2012 is a 2.5" level and 3" body lift. I still achieved over 4" of lift for a tad cheaper price. My truck isnt going to see much offroad use so I opted for looks instead of performance.

The RCX lifts are very popular among Ram 1500 owners. I know I'm happy with mine on my 2500.

Thanks for all the replies. Im definitely going to check out a 6" kit as parking in a garage or underground is not something I have to worry about. one of my friends has a body lift on his Silverado and his U-bolts just cracked I think is what he told me so im trying to stay away from that. What is a good rim/ tire combo to look at? Id like to get black rims if possible and was thinking 35's on it

Man....you just asked a question that is hard to answer....LOL
What rim/tire combo you should look at?

For one, do you want an MT or AT tire?
Rims, did you want matte, gloss black or black with machine?

Either way, Fuel and XD wheels are common

I agree. I love most of the Fuel, KMC XD series and BMF wheels.

Forgot about BMF, prob because all the nice wheels they make DO NOT fit our 5 lug
I know because I want those BMF novakane stealth in 8 lug because they look nicer

Another good reason to get a full suspension lift is most kits come with beefier than stock parts, such as steering knuckles, tie rods etc..
