Hey, so I was thinking about possibly getting a bull bar for my 2014 1500. Only problem is, after looking at a lot of pictures, it seems that most of them come up right where the tow hooks are, or even mounting where the tow hooks would normally be.

My question is this -- Is this seemingly universal style engineered for a reason, or could I possibly fab my own "style" to get around that?

I was thinking maybe flare out the bottom part so it comes up between the tow hooks and the fog lights.

the minute you try to push something or hit something those bars are gonna bend and destroy your front end.

is this for looks or function?

I was going to use 2 inch sched-160 steel tubing for it. We've made bumpers and receiver hitches out of this stuff before, and never had one fail. Even made a pallet hoist for lifting pallets laden with about 2000 lbs of steel/metal.
Probably wouldn't flare it straight out at 90 degrees from everything, but rather angled outwards straight off the mounting brackets.

I mean, looking at the setup in the attachment, it's only gotta go out an extra 5 inches or so.

It's mostly going to be for aesthetics, but I do want to know it'll be able to hold up to hitting something. Not necessarily a fully grown spruce at 90km/h, but there are a fair amount of deer around where I live that seem to want to play chicken with vehicles, running across the road right in front of you.
When I have enough disposable cash on hand, I plan on getting a Magnum bumper by ICI, but that's probably going to be about eight months to a year away.
