has anyone swapped a 4th gen 3500 rear bumper for a 4th gen 1500 sport bumper? Just curious if it’s possible.

I know this from someone on a forum who bought a 1500 truck with a HD truck bumper on it. He was having problems with the trailer brake plug, whoever did the swap didn't get the wiring plugged in all the way as the plugs are on opposite sides (1500 vs HD).
I think he might have used a Curt wiring harness to extend the plug and give a 4/5 flat for a tailgate LED

I was wondering if a 1500 4th gen sport bumper would fit correctly on my 4th gen 3500.

Kevin.....the 1500 sport rear bumper bolts right up. I did this to my 2017 2500 (Cummins). As crash68 mentions, the trailer plug on heavy duty's is on the passenger (right) side of the rear plate while on 1500's its on the driver's (left) side of the rear plate. Its a simple fix. You just need to move the trailer plug bracket that is attached to the backside of the bumper to the right side, easy to do and you will not need to stretch or move your current harness. Most new 1500 bumpers will include the bracket for the trailer plug already on the bumper, so when you get one it will be on the left side. You can either swap it over to the right (its held on with 2 bolts or if pop rivets just drill them out) or leave it alone and when you take your stock 3500 bumper off remove the trailer bracket and put it on the right side of the new bumper. I used one of these to connect my tailgate light bar behind the bumper. It has a lot of slack. It may be an easy way to stretch that cable. Plus you'll have the extra plug if you ever decide to add a light bar too. https://www.curtmfg.com/part/55384
