Can a EGR valve create a turbocharger whine?

Just wondering if this was possible, my 2013 has been making a turbocharger type noise in park, and i know for a fact that 65RFEs don’t turn on the pumps until they’re in R, N, or D. Asking before i take off the belt and look there.

I've never heard an EGR valve make any kind of noise, there's a diaphragm in there but otherwise no moving parts. sounds like a bearing to me. Most likely an idler/tensioner pulley or could even be an alternator bearing. You have like 400K miles on it right? So normal wear and tear items.

It’s time to replace my serp belt so i’ll have to look at all of them.

The front pump is always “on” when the engine is running. It can’t be turned off, it’s driven directly from the torque converter. Otherwise you’d have a big delay when you shifted into gear and had to wait for pressure to build up.

As for your noise a failing EGR valve likely won’t make any noise, only indication would be a CEL or a rough run condition.

Does the noise follow engine RPM? As you stated I’d start with removing the belt and see if the noise is still there.

Yes, it does. This truck also has a very very weird shifting condition when accelerating from around 15 MPH of just holding a gear and acting like a CVT. I noticed it does it in every single gear. I spun the engine over yesterday by the crank and noticed no noise (busy day, didn’t have a lot of time to take off the belt), but i thought it was strange.

If you just start driving from a stop it shifts beautifully, forgot to add that

Mine has been making a whining sound for the past 8 years. I just learned to live with it. But Putting on LT headers did get rid of the sound... lol...
